As the old saying goes “if you bought it, a truck brought it.” But this truck brings more than just physical goods. Everywhere it goes it also brings breast cancer awareness.
It all started when The Larson Group, a company which operates Peterbilt distribution and service centers, decided to customize a Peterbilt 389. There was a Pink in the Park cancer awareness fundraiser being held in Springfield, MO last year, and TLG wanted to help raise awareness.
“As a sponsor of such an important event, we wanted to do everything we could to draw a big crowd, and parking our breast cancer awareness truck in front of the Springfield Cardinals stadium certainly helped pique public interest. The fundraiser was a big success,” said TLG Corporate Marketing Manager Barbie Langston according to a press release.
TLG then took the 389 to other charity fundraisers where it also turned heads. But it was still a truck fully capable of hauling cargo, so when carrier Sparks Transport heard about it, they had to have it as part of their fleet.
The response that Sparks has gotten has been more than they bargained for. According to their head of dispatch and maintenance, after only a few weeks, their customers started asking for that truck specifically.
One driver, Terry Fish, says that everywhere he goes with it people take pictures and smile as he drives by. “It is an honor and privilege to drive the Optimus Prime of breast cancer,” says Fish.
