A young mother got in an accident when an oil truck driver in front of her intentionally caused her to crash into him. But she’s not mad. In fact, she says that the oil truck driver is an “angel.”
Asia Leigh Scott was driving home from an overnight shift at a local animal hospital last Friday. Scott is epileptic and usually takes medication daily, but the night shift caused her to lose track of her medication schedule. On her drive home, she had a seizure and fell unconscious.
A short time later, truck driver Damien McElroy spotted her car swerving ahead of him. He pulled up alongside her vehicle and saw that she was slumped over. McElroy then pulled his truck in front of her car.
“She started drifting back to the left toward oncoming lanes, so I more or less used the truck to stop her,” McElroy told The Mountaineer. “I just more or less let off the gas just hoped everything worked out and we could get her stopped and not hurt anybody.”
The plan worked, and by the time they came to a stop, Scott had driven while unconscious for a mile and a half.
McElroy, who is also a volunteer firefighter, ran to Scott’s car and found that her foot was still on the gas pedal. Reaching in through the cracked open window, he lowered it the rest of the way.
“I reached over and cut the car off and put it in gear to where it wouldn’t roll away,” said McElroy.
When asked why he put himself in danger and attempted such a risky maneuver in a fuel tanker truck, McElroy said he knew the driver must be a mother because he had seen a car seat in the back of the car.
“The only thing on my mind was the visible carseat in the back, and that she was laid over. I just wanted to get the car stopped,” McElroy said.
Though she was still unconscious when she was taken to the hospital, Scott took to Facebook to thank her rescuer and “told him he was my angel.”
“[McElroy] saved my life and brought me home to this beautiful girl, a 5-year-old little boy, and a husband,” Scott told WLOS, a local ABC affiliate.

Gutsy move. Good job.
Reckless
Lol, and what outcome could there have been not doing this? The probability was a certain collision, involving injury, possible death to her and or others. I’ll condone this form of calculated risk you call reckless. A man able to think outside the box and act calm caculated manner in a chaotic situation. Sure better than I don’t know what I could have done, so I did nothing and just waited for the inevitable accident. Do you have gold rope syndrome?
What a DICK thing to say!
Great story, but what’s really sad is the driver will be rewarded with a DOT recordable accident on his record. Which is totally unfair. ALL CMV CRASHES SHOULD BE REVIEWED ON A CASE BY CASE BASIS!!!
You know there still a few people in our society who would shake his hand and give him a letter of reward and a certificate for the best meal in town, and forget that she hit him !
Thank you Sir. We need more people like you in the world.
You represent what driving used to be. Respect, morals and caring
Bless you
She took to Facebook while still unconscious?
Great job driver!
My thoughts exactly! lol
I know I was like, “Huh?”
Awesome job!
Great work Driver!
I’ve probably would do the same. God bless you
Great job and thank you for being an attentive driver. GOD placed you there for a reason.
Love it. God loves His children.
Absolutely amazing! So good once again sent an angel. Although at the time the driver of the truck didn’t realize what his mission was at that point nin his life God used the drivers good will and his knowledge as a truck driver to save this woman’s life. God bless you driver, and God blessed, the woman who was driving the car.

So nice to hear such a positive and inspiring story. God bless you and your family driver.
Good job, just slowly matched her speed and bump, then just slow down. No problem.
It was the perfect maneuver he could of possibly done in that particular situation
This was smart move on his part. Great job fellow driver. May God bless you for many years to come.
Great job driver!
Hopefully the company is just as proud, wouldn’t be the first time someone got canned for doing a good thing.
“God placed you there”…lol. Maybe if God was actually involved, the woman wouldn’t have passed out at the wheel in the first place.
obviously you need to spend a little more time reading that book !
Thank you for putting yourself and even your job in harms way for someone else. Thankful all worked out well for everyone involved. My mom has seizures (light epilepsy), my brother is a truck driver, and I am mom of a baby boy and a wife, so this story brought tears (good ones) from several angles.
God bless you my fellow driver thank you for taking this into your hands
God job, driver. Glad she’s ok.
BRAVO !!!
You are truly a highway hero with out a doubt!
Definitely a calculated risk indeed.
God was was watching over both of you.
Good job driver.
Nice move maverick,..,12 months from today there will be an update to this story…Trucking company loses 1.5 million in a settlement after saving a mother of one child. The woman’s husband is very happy that his wife was saved and they are now out of debt….Lol peace
Sad, but probably true.
Welcome to America…
Dam….just realized that you’re probably right.
Very brave.
I hope this story is true, but it’s so full of holes and I probabilities that it is somewhat hard to believe. If true, good job driver. If not, shame on this rag for publishing such lies.
Great job truly a heroic move considering all the things that could be the end results ! Hopefully the police took his licence number down wrong, or someone at the state level imputs it incorrectly! This is absolutely amazing! ! God most certainly had his hands all around them!!!!
Much Respect to that driver… You are a true Hero !!!!!
“McElroy said he knew the driver must be a mother because he had seen a car seat in the back of the car”
Great job driver! I would’ve done this same thing and have done things similar in my time, no matter if they were mothers or not.
You all have missed the real issue here, someone let an epileptic drive; ridiculous!
Absolutely outstanding!!!!
Someone like Brian with the “reckless” comment would have gotten out his camera to make a you tube video of her crash.
And Mike Mansfield To, ! Shame people are so hard they can not even have a good thought for a good deed
