Jesse Davis, a truck driver from Lakeland, Florida, was recognized as a Highway Angel for stopping to aid an elderly driver after the driver crashed into a guardrail on the highway.
On July 16, Davis was at the end of his day, and merged onto U.S. 169 from I-244 near Tulsa, Oklahoma. Checking his mirrors, he saw a car crash into the guardrail right behind his truck.
Davis shared that he figured the driver took the curve too sharply and quickly, lost control and crashed head-on into the guardrail. Davis pulled over without a pause and ran back to check on the driver, who appeared to be in his 80s. Davis reported that he seemed dazed, but otherwise alright with no major injuries.
Davis directed the driver to move his vehicle, as it was blocking traffic. Another vehicle stopped to help and call 911 as Davis was primarily focused on the driver and his health and safety.
Jesse Davis credited his skills as a volunteer fireman, as sometimes out on the road, there isn’t always help nearby. He has been driving a truck for 42 years and loves every minute of it.
The TCA has presented him with a certificate, patch, lapel pin, and truck decals in honor of his achievement.
