Nebraska State Patrol has been cracking down on truckers. Hard. They launched a surprise CMV inspection blitz on Tuesday the 16th. Then another on Wednesday. Then again on Thursday.
According to the NSP, troopers are targeting vehicles that may not regularly pass through weigh stations. And if the results are anything to go by, these trucks may not have been through a weigh station and inspection for a while.
During the first blitz, NSP conducted 100 inspections and claims to have found 336 violations, resulting in 41 vehicles being placed out of service. Five drivers were placed out of service for not having a CDL, driving on a suspended CDL, or not having a driver’s license at all. The next two days saw similar results.
This isn’t the first time that the NSP has conducted surprise enforcement blitzes. In fact, it’s becoming a regular thing for the cornhusker state. Last year, the NSP sprang about a dozen blitzes on truckers, and if the past few weeks is any indication, there will only be more to come.
Inspection points can pop up anywhere across the state, and according to the NSP, there are already more surprise inspections planned for later this year.

No license suspended license good for the husker state it’s these driver that give the rest of us legal drivers a bad reputation.
I’m not perfect never will be but try my best to abide by the reg’s.

Guess everyone better get used to the hired gun cracking down on the hard working drivers. Training and more training. Eld’s are fun! I’m currently running paper until December and after that I’m going to find another job of sorts to get me outta this business. Why do people hate trucks so much? I cannot figure it out! Even the dot has gotten worse across the country. 20 years ago it wasn’t like today at all and new drivers need to know this!
troy says
Yeah 20 years ago it was like this. Try 40 years ago it was fun.
Northstar says
30 years ago you made money trucking. Because you didn’t use the truck as homeless housing..You use it as a tool to make money period…..As a example Truckers (Neb farmers) use to run Grand Island to Chicago 3 times a week and still be home the weekend. Hell with your idiot boxes, retarded trucks, hours spent producing You Tube trucking videos, or playing the part of a zoo keeper with two dogs a cat, a crate full of Farette’s, or 12 hours of Bluetooth phone calls or 5 hours of texting of course it takes you 2 days to go Chicago to Des Moines ..Good luck

Don’t quit your job just yet it ain’t over about the elogs yet

I have always thought that the regular idea of announcing a major inspection blitz weeks in advance was pretty stupid, as it allows the bad actors to keep their goofy stuff off the road during that time. Nebraska figured that out also. It is the surprise blitzes that yield the true picture of what is rolling down their highways. 336 violations in 100 inspections? No wonder the public has a tainted view of the trucking industry.
Driver says
Yeah but nebraska dot is well known for gestapo type antics from its officers, writing you up when there is nothing there, putting you out of service because of their own twisted thoughts, or because they are trying to impress their boss, mad at their wife, etc, etc..screaming at you, calling you a liar, till you finally just agree with them, tell em to write their tickets, just to get them to shut the hail up…they could easily be the dnc, instead of the dot, no problem..
Z Spasic says
Just had a DOT inspection recently had grease job and fresh oil change Said I had Blown wheel seal I told them it was grease from fresh grease job No must replace seal, replaced seal Bone dry, full oil resirvor nothing wrong other than Jackasses wanting there way. Trucker Jump through this Hoop NOW.
Scooter says
Remember that you can’t go they a blitz insoection clean they will make something wrong or say is wrong. Just to make themselves look good. But in fact there isn’t anything wrong.
I also have been stopped by Iowa dot and the guy I was driving for had no mud flaps.
Iowa said there stAte doesn’t require them and then he said I don’t think that federal law doesn’t either. Lmao. Ok. He wrote me up for a faded inspection sticker lmao so you see you can’t get away clean and some of it is ridiculous
Snow Walker says
A “faded” inspection sticker?????? I hope you at least put some effort into to fighting that. I have had a couple of damaged stickers that I was written up for but fought them both and won.
John holt says
All you have to do is show up for court because the officer won’t because they don’t get paid for court appearances then you will get it thrown out I’ve been there before 😀
Jerry says
You know what I do now, before they put they put the inspection sticker on my truck I photo it with my phone and ask them for a photocopy than I put a copy of it in my permit book. Sun has ultraviolet rays and even when they tell you it won’t fade, truth is with time it will even when a sunlight resistant marker us used. But if you have a copy in your permit book, it’s a huge help.
Tom says
Yet another reason to stay retired.
Snow Walker says
I don’t have a problem with the crack down on the idiots who give honest drivers a bad name. It really does not take much effort or time to operate legally.
don crawford says
yes this is the future, send these people to Colorado to get trained, cvsa school then they still have no idea of what to do, and common sense, well that is out the door on these rookies..like in oregon, you are always in the hot seat, most inspectors are good but bad apples everywhere,driver,cop,inspector..and all districts are playing a numbers game for boss in capitol office to justify their job, inspection data etc..good luck. glad I only run local hauling fuel..and in my area the staters have to do 30 road side or weighstation insp a month for their job, bunch of crapola, when is the general public going to fall under the same rules for pulic safety, they do not secure their loads correctly, bad lites, windsheilds cracked and ugh,oh I forgot not enough money for that, and the copper might find drunks, dope and they do not want to piss the general motoring public off, need their vote for increases in dollars for whatever. enough said
Anthony says
Looks like Nebraska is hurting for revenue again!!
Casey says
Why do people think because they are cracking down on truck drivers they hate us? Look at the results. Weigh stations are too easy to avoid. If stats would do this more maybe some of these idiots would think twice about getting behind the wheel. I’m getting off the road because there are too many idiots out here driving trucks that should not be. I have been on e logs 5 years but that’s not the reason I’m leaving. The more they catch drivers driving illegally, the more regulations we will get. I say good, job, keep busting these sorry drivers.
Mike says
In my experience, it’s easier than ever to get by a scale because of prepass. Many years ago I would draw up in a knot going through a scale. I finally figured out how to avoid that. Do everything legal. And work for a company that mantains equipment. I don’t remember a violation I got that wasn’t legit. I’m not saying it doesn’t happen, just relating my experiences. But if a driver does not have a CDL, and operating a commercial vehicle, he needs to be off the road. And I know that cheating on log books has been a long standing tradition in trucking. But the log book is at least a leg to stand on to keep a company from running a driver in the ground. I’m sure many will disagree, just my opinion. I have been driving trucks only 32 years. Be safe.
Jesse says
And furthermore!!!! When did the DOT become mechanics?????? Pulling away with a clean inspection in the 72 hour check will be possible if the officer is a nice guy!! True statement!!!! Interstate 90 south of Madison wi i was inspected level 1 and the dot officer found a leaking brake can hose it wasn’t leaking when i stopped!!!! While he was under the trailer he must have yanked and pulled hard on a hose! Instantly i hear air rushing through my trailer valve and shortly there after no air! Out of service i was.. I dont trust them anymore !
Will says
You have the right to be present anytime they touch your truck I tell them my rules for inspection are simple I must be able to see their hands at all times when near my truck to make sure nothing is tampered with
Echo says
It’s funny to read these posts everyone wants to complan when these idiot drivers aren’t caught or pulled over but when a state does do something about it everyone cries witch hunt. If you and your truck are as professional as you all like to sound then you have nothing to worry about.
Jerry says
Have you ever noticed how many drivers at truck stops or even when doing a drop n hook at a shipper DO NOT do a pretrip?? I have even had a driver ask me if something is wrong with my truck while doing my daily pretrip, I say no I look at my truck daily (pretrip) daily whether driving nights or days. I have found defects many times over the years, lights out, air leaks, tire issues, brake cotter pin at brake rod missing, coolant leaks, oil leaks, no/missing registration in the trailer nose box, trailer inspection sticker expired or missing, air hoses with worn spot due to rubbing on something. I mean the list goes on, so if a driver isn’t looking, the DOT is going to…lol…just saying cut your risk down and it’s our job to inspect the equipment we use everyday to keep things as safe as possible. Yes it involves a daily routine of working of hands on safety and being proactive about it, but you may save yourself a violation , your life and possible someone elses. I do it daily and a quick enroute for the reason of safety and I got a good record and want to keep it that way. Also I drive for a company that will get it fixed right away if you tell them, I do replace lights, mud flaps, related on my own in most cases, but all else they send me to a shop or truck stop to have it repaired. Don’t drive for a company that won’t keep their equipment maintained!
Will says
I was part of this inspection blitz perfect level one inspection my truck has 475k on it which a 2001 trailer hauling hazmat do your shit right don’t be mad at the state for doing their job

Gary says
I wonder if the truck put out of service are BIG company trucks, or O/O
Robert says
I doubt the big company trucks got put out of service unless it was a lease operator or owner operator hauling for the big company. The one I work for retires the trucks when they get near half million miles. Part of it is to sell with some warranty left and the other is to get as much out of it as they can. The biggest violation where I work is people speeding on the ramp headed into the scales and lights being burned out. It takes 5 minutes to change a headlight. I don’t understand why people can’t or won’t do it. If it’s a trailer light I refuse to climb and change it I don’t get paid enough to break my neck. I can tell you this, they would tell me take it to a shop and get it fixed asap.
That’s why DOT generally leaves the trucks alone because they know the equipment is maintained.
