Paccar Incorporated is recalling over 450,000 Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks ranging from model year 2008-2020.
According to a recall notice published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, every single truck in the lines produced is estimated to have a defect that could cause an indicator light to malfunction and not turn on when needed. The trucks impacted all have NAMUX software that included a 25% voltage threshold setting for the ABS/ESC malfunction indicator lamp.
Paccar says that a blown fuse could result in the indicator lights for anti-lock braking systems and electronic stability control systems not to illuminate properly. Other lights could also be improperly illuminated as a result.
The following vehicles will be recalled:
2008-2019 Peterbilt 330, 335, 337, 340, 348, 365, 367, 384, 386, 387, 388, 389, 567, 579, and 587.
2008-2020 Kenworth T170, T270, T370, T660, T680, T800, T880, and W900.
Affected customers will be notified within 60 days. Trucks can be serviced at a dealer for free. All that is needed is an update of the NAMUX software.

All Trucks are up to Federal Emission Standards, Commiefornia is the ONLY State that can require an up to date Emission System.

As a truck tech for over fourty years, the above explanation makes no sense. If the problem causes a fuse to blow, the dash warning lights would fail to work all together. When you first turn on your ignition switch all the warning lights should come on for a brief couple of seconds and then go out. If so your system is working properly. In my opinion if it is’nt broke, do’nt fix it!
Hello Randall, I’d like to know what your take is and on all these emission controls and updates .I have a 2015 Kenworth T680( which is an absolute piece of garbage by the way) I keep getting recall notices to update the emissions, I called Kenworth and ask what’s wrong with it this time ?they don’t really have an answer other than it needs to be upgraded to meet better standards. should I waste my time?

Not sure where some people get there info on safety recalls but if your truck has a recall and you do not get it fixed it could be you negligence if you get into crash and fir that reason from the recall its going to cost you $$$$$$$$$$$

As a truck tech one thing that everyone forgot here you know that NHTSA has nothing once so ever to do with emissions they could care less some homework needs to be done here. Safety and emissions are 2 different government offices and they don’t cross responsibilities. Further these are 2 completely different computer systems chassis software vs engine software they require completely different programs to connect. Don’t know now how Jake brake noise ties into a recalled light on the dash?
Wow… Paccar got a code it actually knew the meaning of??? And it was correct?? Not bad, an actual code for a burn up, malfunctioning bulb/dash light, that a tech could diagnose and repair, no fuss, no muss. Now maybe you could apply this to every other code relating to the more important stuff, like that which derates me because the piece of junk can’t seem to regen, without being forced by a nice dealer guy in his shop by the hour. Why have a manual regen toggle for the driver to initiate by depressing said switch, toogle, or button, for it to only tell you that conditions are not met, then derate you a half hour later?? Things that make you go Hmmm..???
