The American Trucking Associations recently appointed 18 executives to its LEAD program and a new chairman of the board.
Sponsored by DriverReach, the LEAD ATA program helps educate stakeholders about how government regulations are enacted, as well as the impact they have on the industry. “LEADers” also reportedly learn how the ATA diligently engages with regulatory and lawmaking bodies on behalf of the freight transportation sector. During the recent ATA Management Conference and Exhibition, the organization honored the outgoing class, naming the following executives to the organization’s tenth.

ATA Names New Chairman
Dan Van Alstine, president and COO of Ruan Transportation Management Systems, was recently tapped as the ATA’s 78th chairman of the board.
“I am humbled and truly honored to be here and to serve as your chairman of this great organization,” Van Alstine reportedly said. “It is an absolute privilege to represent the millions of Americans who move our country as part of the transportation and logistics industry.”
Headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa, Ruan Transportation ranks among the largest logistics operations in the nation. Van Alstine has been with Ruan for more than eight years, having previously logged more than 16 with Schneider National in a leadership role. He also served as the ATA’s First Vice Chairman before the recent appointment.
“Dan is perfectly suited to be ATA’s next chairman. He listens, asks questions and then takes action – that’s leadership,” ATA President and CEO Chris Spear reportedly said. “His ability to get the best out of people by challenging and inspiring them is why he makes a difference, and we are fortunate to have him as our chairman.”
The Board also elected Andrew Boyle, co-president of Boyle Transportation, Billerica, Massachusetts, as ATA first vice chairman and, Darren Hawkins, CEO of YRC Worldwide Inc., Overland Park, Kansas, as ATA second vice chairman. In addition, the Board named Dennis Dellinger, president and CEO of Cargo Transporters, Hickory, North Carolina, and Wes Davis, CFO of Big M Transportation, Blue Mountain, Mississippi, as ATA vice chairmen. In addition, the Board re-elected John M. Smith, chairman of CRST International Holdings LLC, as secretary and John A. Smith, president and CEO of FedEx Ground, as treasurer.
