Town cops and state police. The difference is huge. They are governed by different sets of rules, have different policies, and have different equipment. The rules even vary state to state. Pennsylvania for example is the only state that doesn’t allow its municipal police to use radar to enforce speed limits. They are allowed only electronic tools such as VASCAR, which can determine the speed of a vehicle by measuring the time it takes to travel between two points. Officials say that the lack of radar prevents local officers from setting up speed traps to boost a town’s economy.
In the interest of brevity, I’m going to let that claim slide.
Well, Pennsylvania is finally looking to join the rest of the country in giving their local police access to the top of the line radar enforcement, but they still want to keep speed traps from popping up in small towns.
The solution that they’ve come up with is to allow local departments to keep up to 50 percent of the money from fines. You read that right. To try to discourage towns from frivolously pulling over drivers for small infractions, they’re instead putting the money into the hands of the same police who would be writing the ticket. Does this seem like the fox guarding the coop to anyone else?
If this bill passes, I think we can expect to see two things for certain. One: people getting pulled over for the smallest infractions. Two: Ferraris in the driveway of every town cop in the state of Pennsylvania.

Now I have to pay the officer for his dishonesty ? If you think the judge will side with you against the officer now, wait until the officer can use YOUR money from the ticket to pay the judge “off the books”,and “under the table” to side against you. Police officers are dishonest enough now ! So now your going to make it legal for them to lie, cheat, and steal from the public? How many tickets being written now are legit, and how many are “made up”? Any news people ever investigated that? Now an incentive is envolved.
This is total BS and you know it. PA has always split fine monies 50/50 between the state and municipality. Allowing local cops to use radar…that’s new. But splitting the fines is not. You state “If this bill passes…..”, what’s the bill ID number. I wanna read it.
I don’t even want to get into a discussin with Ron. Sounds like he’s already got issues with law enforcement.
I agree with ron,but its possible i have issues. Its bad enough that they are taking our money at gunpoint, now it looks like they will be able to shoot first then steal your wallet. And by the way im a truck driver with a very good driving record, and i see alot of shtt out here.Constant searches of cars and im pretty sure not everybody out here is a criminal. But the cops sure do think so.Why are the hundreds of cops on the highways when homes are being broke into, children being kidnapped, people being shot, drug deals happening on many corners. Its not protect and serve, its all about the money.
