Freight and trailers that were previously considered secure may become a target for cargo thieves as new tools are helping them steal entire rigs and get away with it. FreightWatch International warns that thieves are starting to use jammers that scramble GPS tracking devices that can be used to track down stolen loads.
According to FreightWatch, a spate of recent incidents “may indicate the beginning of a trend” of thieves using jammers to interrupt communication on GPS trackers.
Recently a tractor and trailer were stolen from a truck stop in Georgia. The truck had a GPS tracker hidden in with its cargo, but the thieves used two jammers to try and block the signal. In this specific incident, the GPS was able to continue transmitting, although the thieves were able to escape and no arrests were made.
“The use of jamming technology presents a potential challenge to the theft recover process and should be taken seriously,” FreightWatch says.

Actually there are GPS jammers that do block GOS tracking devices, you can get them fairly inexpensive from the same companies that make GPS tracking devices. This is wrong in many ways, reminds me of the companies that hack Into your computer, infect you with spyware then offer you virus and malware/spyware protection.
Well I just like the companies that makes radars making detectors.
There is a rise in thefts though just two weeks ago some stole a truck from a company not far from one of our drop lots then took the truck and stole one of our ld’ed trailers.
So is there any way to combat this? Our company is also a freight company, I really want to know how to fix this situation, don’t let it happen to my company.
Such jammers have been on sale for a long time, we must fight in other ways.
