The owner of a small trucking company in Memphis has been charged with murder after he walked into a trucking company next door and opened fire on three men, killing one and injuring another.
It is still unclear what motive Charles Hammond had for the shooting, but the 30 year-old owner of Hammond Transportation has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder.
Authorities are saying that Hammond walked across the street to JARS Transportation and Delivery with a gun and opened fire on the three men.
Craig Chambers, a witness who works at the nearby B&L Trailer told the eerie story of how Hammond calmly strolled back to his business after the shooting was over.
“Charles came out and I said, ‘Charles, are you OK?'” Chambers said in an interview with The Jackson Sun. “He said, ‘I’m doing fine.”
Hammond has no previous criminal record and authorities are still trying to figure out what exactly happened. He has run the company which was founded by his father since the elder Hammond’s death in April.
Some sources are reporting that the victims of the shooting were Hammond’s own employees, while others claim that they worked for JARS. Michael Hansbro was shot in the face but survived while Michael Osborn was shot in the chest and died on the scene.
Hammond turned himself in to police and is being held without the possibility of bail.

Probably over freight. We need loyalty and freight rates again. The young man, Mr Hammond obviously cannot continue to play business as usual.
His father founded the company, and ran it…his son either didn’t have what it took to run it or the other company owner was taunting him…Either way…It’s a horrible situation all around.
Ho hum just another day in the world of cutthroat competition…
How’s that deregulation working out for ya aye?
Perhaps the competition was born of former Hammond employees?
Treat your people well, they won’t want to leave?
Maybe they taunted him constantly?
Not an excuse to be sure, but if so, a short sighted strategy indeed.
Have people just gone plain crazy??…my God…what happened to think before you act…murder??? Wow crazy, you never know who your around and what’s going through their mind!!
There’s a lot of people that should be murdered. Anyone crooked are #1 on the list, a liar & thief #2 on & on. Then we’d have a good country to live in.
…and this, ladies and gents, is a prime example of what’s wrong with society.
damn dispatchers at the bottom of this.
I have always said that there are just too many trucking companies,.cheap drivers and paper logs .and cheap freight …
Soo… Paper logs are the problem here? How do you figure?
Bottom feeder drivers using paper logs is the problem.. not the logs themselves.
And this is why we say the Lord’s Prayer.
As crazy as you are, you make a valid point
He’ll use temporary insanity defense, plead out to manslaughter, get sentenced to 15 years and serve 5-7
But the victims families get a life time sentence!!! ….the true blue court system of the USA…
That’s a fact
You hit it right on the head!
Are you guys playing with a full deck? None of the above comments are even worth reading
…smokin’ cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaroo, apparently.
GOT NOTHING TO DO?
Wonder what the shooter is thinking now with all the scenarios he could’ve done and not be sitting in a cell…
Murder is never the answer to anything. So life doesn’t go your way? Murder someone? I think not. Aside from defense of life killing another human being is never the answer. I’m shocked that there are posts here condoning murder. Wake up people.
was thinking it was hugh from irt, i remember an episode where he was shooting at the truck behind him.
