The owner of a trucking company in Worcester, MA has been sentenced for bribing a federal safety inspector. He has received 1 year of probation and a fine of only $1,000.
Last year during an FMCSA inspection, the log books of Korca Enterprises, Inc were inspected and it was discovered that several drivers for the carrier had been working over hours in violation of HOS regulations. The carrier’s owner, Irfan Dushku, had been doctoring the record to make it appear that his drivers were compliant. When the discrepancies were discovered, Dushku bribed the FMCSA inspector with $1,000 to issue a clean report.
Dushku’s defense lawyer claimed that his client was a “good man who made a very serious mistake,” but pointed out that the father of three had lost his business as a result of the criminal charges and does not have a previous criminal record.
The Assistant U.S. Disctrict Attorney in charge of the case was quoted as saying, “A bribe is a bribe. He put at risk the safety of his drivers and all who share the road with them.” Despite the strong words, Dushku ended up walking away from the whole ordeal with little more than a slap on the wrist.

People in government, and the legal system seem to have ways of hiding the truth, buy “covering up for each other ” that the rest of us would go to jail for. The crooked people are the inspector, and judge here.
