Under the current CSA scoring system, carriers’ crash ratings are affected equally by any crash a driver is involved in regardless of whether or not the driver was at fault. The reason is that the FMCSA does not currently have the ability to look in to each individual crash report to accurately determine whether or not a driver was at fault. Now the FMCSA is starting to study just how it might go about being able to use crash fault as a factor in CSA scoring.
According to Overdrive Online, the FMCSA is beginning by studying whether or not police reports have sufficient quality and consistency to be used by the agency to determine crash fault. If they are deemed accurate enough, it would cost the agency somewhere between $2 and $3 million to analyze the 10,000 commercial vehicle crash reports it receives each year.
There is currently no timeline set by the FMCSA for when they expect to make any changes, but the Senate Appropriations Committee has directed the agency to complete any research for the plan by September 30th, giving them less than three weeks to get all of the information they need. The committee has also scheduled a deadline for an audit of progress for December 1st, 2014. So if there are any changes coming, they may be long way off and based on some very hasty research.

The size of the bureaucracy is increasing to handle the increased size of bureaucracy.
We had a driver involved in an incident in Memphis last year involving a 4 wheeler. Witnesses and the police report clearly stated that it was the driver of the 4 wheeler who was at fault. The driver of the 4 wheeler HIT OUR TRUCK. Our driver did everything humanly possible to avoid the crash, which occurred in heavy morning traffic.
The FMCSA via the CSA scoring system, assessed the accident against our company and our driver. When our logistics manager called to file a complain on the matter, the person he talked with said “she was sorry but there was currently no way to change the report”. The incident stayed against us, raising our company score.
For a prime example of the “idiocracy” at work, one has to look no further than the CSA and FMCSA.
Roger that !!
“studying whether or not police reports have sufficient quality and consistency to be used by the agency to determine crash fault.” The FMCSA is going to trust that the police aren’t going to write a bias accident report. I sent the FMCSA a copy of my 2005 Ohio accident report that the Ohio Highway Patrol covered up for the Ohio state OWNED vehicle, and Ohio STATE EMPLOYEE,who ran a red light into the right side of my truck…killing HIS passenger. I lost my CDL,and charged with the guys death. Don’t tell me “Police officers don’t lie”,they are taught how lie in court to before they leave the acadamy. Ask any lawyer.
Why ask a lawyer, they lie too.
10,000 at faults for the industry and it’s drives per year is $250 per case in cost for the FMCSA.
in 2009 there was a total of 10.8 million accidents of which only 10000 were recordable Commercial vehicle accidents according to this report, why are we being persecuted by the DOT?
Its probably because we,not as individual o/o but as a whole are seen by the public as having deep pockets. I mean look at that truck you are driving, nice looking 359 pete ,285″ wheelbase,120″ sleeper,18 speed tranny with 3:25 rears and a 550 Hp power plant. Nice, just picked it up at the dealer and now driving it home. So,Some S.O.B. see that dollar sign going down the road , comes up on the left side and makes a quick turn into a driveway to a plaza. You do your best to avoid him but you hit that S.O.B. and because it is a truck he contacts the law and they come over and site you for causing that M.F. accident. Does this scenerio sound about right as to why they do what they do? If you hit them any way it is your fault for not driving responsibly. They know this and they see those big dollar signs going into their wallet, they have the nerve s of steel and they will stick it to you any time they can. The best thing to do is slow down, give them room for their stupidity and close you eye just before you smack into that dumb S.O.B.
I guess you get the jest of what I am saying so , Drive Safe .
CSA, PSP is another way of profiling companies and drivers, to quote; weed out undesirables,
