According to a new report released by the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration, the average price of diesel fuel is expected to fall 12 cents in 2014 to a national average of $3.77 per gallon.
Despite the large drop of 12 cents, the estimate is still a smaller decline than was predicted by the EIA in November when it said that the price would drop to $3.73. Estimates have been going up and down in the last few months with the highest estimate in September when the EIA projected an average diesel price of $3.82. The price dipped in October when the EIA predicted that the national average cost per gallon would fall to $3.76, and then fell again in November.
The estimated price drop is due in large part to the expected drop in crude oil prices due to the growth of non-OPEC oil supply exceeding the growth of consumption.
