A driver is dead after he was shot in the parking lot of a Walmart in Ithaca, New York in the early hours of Thursday morning. Reports indicate that he had pulled over to take a rest break.
William Schumacher, the 52-year-old trucker, was working as a seasonal UPS driver, helping manage the influx of shipments around the holidays for his second year. He had pulled into a Walmart parking lot at 135 Fairgrounds Memorial Parkway to take a break from driving just before 1:00am.
According to a witness, he was coming out of the Walmart when he was shot by his assailant who was later identified as 38-year-old Justin Barkley. Barkley then pulled his pickup truck out of the parking lot and ran over Schumacher on the way out.
Investigators say that Barkley and Schumacher did not know each other and had not spoken or interacted before the incident.
One witness, John Thorna, recounted the incident:
“A guy was sitting in his truck, and all I heard was a gunshot and looked up, saw the guy fall, and then the guy in the truck backed up, pulled out, ran him over and took off,” Thorna said. He added that it seemed like Barkley was waiting in his truck for Schumacher to come out of the store.
Police caught up with Barkley on the road, but he refused to pull over, leading police on a chase to a house believed to be his own. When he exited the vehicle, he fired at officers and retreated into the house.
After a standoff that lasted multiple hours, police negotiators got Barkley to exit his house and surrender peacefully to police at 9:43am. In his booking photo, Barkley can be seen unnervingly smiling for the camera.
Police have not yet released a motive for the killing. Barkley has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bail.

East Coast has the problem with lack of parking spaces for trucks. I got to Atlanta, GA last Wednesday at 10pm and couldn’t find parking, not even paid spaces at Petro. And the park attendant told me that they were full since 7pm.
I hear ya driver, and Georgia has all of those no parking signs on the ramps. I kinda hate driving overnight but not having to worry about finding a parking spot is an incentive sometimes.
RIP trucker! No more “hot” loads with a short time to get there. Thank God they found the “witless” perp who committed this foul murder.

It’s possible that the UPS driver may have cut the driver off either intentionally or just a little too close which I see quite often. UPS drivers will NOT ease off the throttle and let another vehicle back into the lane. They are so into not losing the slightest bit of time! The driver didn’t deserve to be shot or run over, but confronted in another manner. The pickup driver needs life in prison!
Death penalty. We don’t need to pay baby sitting taxes for these kind of people. Eye for an eye. You kill you lose your life.
I think he deserves his right to a speedy trial, and an even speedier execution. I think we should have Monday Night Beheadings televised. Plenty of worthless trash like this POS to ensure we’d never have to have reruns. I may open a Guillotine factory, just in case.
Maybe there is more to this story then what is being mentioned, why would this perp shoot and then run over a guy he didn’t know, there has to be something else, but the victim is dead not able to speak for himself, the detective will have to sort through all the blank spaces and close this case and clear the victim of any wrongdoing and get his family justice

When dispatchers get revenge.
There are to many bad people circulating in our society. This week a guy killed two cops in Americus, Ga. They were answering a domestic violence complaint. The shooter had a rap sheet 35 some odd pages long. This guy had no business on the street. Had he been properly handled by the courts those cops might be spending this christmas with their families.
I blame electronic logs and mandatory rest breaks.
Yet another killing without being able to protect ourselves. Carey permits thats all needs to be said

I was arrested in Georgia for having a gun in my truck for protection. They dropped the charges when they verified that my permit was valid and I had no warrants. The police supervisor asked me would I be leaving my guns home next time. I told him no! I have a right to defend myself out here.
There is no DOT regulation against carrying a gun in the truck. It deals with it being loaded or not. It is up to each individual state law whether it is legal for you to have it or not.

I’m thinking extreme road rage issue. Had a wacko berate me for being in a service station parking lot after I had just delivered fuel to the station, and was in the cab doing the customer paperwork. These kinds of people don’t think before they fly off.
There are, no doubt, people out there who absolutely HATE trucks. If they already have a loose screw and a gun to boot, some unsuspecting person may pay with their life.
You should have told thst f… that everything he owned, will own, eats, uses, etc, comes by truck. Only two exceptions the air he breathes and his family.

Bad thing that the driver was killed, but it is odd shooting them then running them over is more like a rage killing. Still I have a hard time believing the driver did something to warrant such a responce
May God bless the trucker and his family R.I.H. my fellow trucker. It doesn’t matter what happened no one deserves to die this man had a family. That’s why I say a prayer every time I’m in this truck, for safe passage not just for me but everyone on the road.
