*** CLARIFICATION *** Drivers must still submit their medical information into the Commercial Driver’s License System (CDLIS) database immediately if they haven’t already! The deadline extension discussed in this post only affects the STATE GOVERNMENTS, giving them more time to become compliant with the law and allowing them to continue requiring drivers to show their physical medical cards. Drivers are responsible for submitting their medical info to CDLIS and carrying their physical card through January 30th 2015! *****
If you were about to throw away your medical card because you were told you’d no longer need it, you may want to hold on to it for a little while longer. Despite a deadline of January 30th for drivers to submit their medical information into the Commercial Driver’s License System (CDLIS) database, many states are saying that they are not prepared to handle the data as of yet. This means that drivers will have to carry around their medical cards for at least one more year.
In 2008, states were given four years to combine drivers’ medical information with their CDLIS records. The original due date was January 30th, 2012. The deadline was then extended by an additional two years to January 30th, 2014. It has now been extended again to January 30th 2015.

Honestly I don`t understand what is that mean…somebody could you explain me this…
I haven’t heard of this at all. Where does one go to do this?
David, you must be a newbe, because it’s been in every trucking publication for the last few years, and your company should have asked you , to make sure it was done…
But yes.. If you have not sent your med cert to your states dmv , your cdl will be either down graded or cancelled out completely.
NOT the case in Tennessee !! Letters have been sent out and you will be suspended & downgraded to a Class D if noncompliant !! And then you have to go thru the whole testing thing AGAIN to get it back is what the letter states !!
Correct, this is the same in all states. The delay discussed in the article is giving the STATE GOVERNMENTS a pass on not having their databases ready and allows them to continue requiring drivers to show physical medical cards, it doesn’t excuse drivers from not being registered.
This is not the same in all states. Different states have different penalties. For Nevada there is no penalty. A driver must not drive a cmv until their med cert is updated with the dmv. Once they are updated they are fine to drive a cmv. They do not have to go through testing again. If they are unsure of their status just call to the commercial dmv office and they can tell you by your cdl# if you are fine or if you need to update.
Same for me. If I don’t submit mine by the 14th (I’m going to the DMV tomorrow) my Class A designation will be taken away including all my endorsements and I’ll have to start all over again. Just another bureaucratic disaster to screw things up for drivers. Things worked fine for all these years and now rehire making it harder on us and themselves with this crap.
Stupid auto correct. They’re** not rehire. Gotta proof read everything now. And I forgot to mention I’m in PA. Not exactly the type to delay anything that has the possibility to screw over a commercial driver.
Same with Texas.
If you go on Florida dmv website there no info or any mention to how and send it in.And I’m a contract driver in the northeast so I haven’t been to my home state in 2 years. If anyone knows how for florida then send me a email

Im in Illinois and i have no clue as to “how do i submit my information.” I’ve heard little mention of this issues and to my knowledge Illinois has not sent out any notice. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
asatt, I got mine, jesse white’s office set me a notification. if you did not get one go to the driver’s facilities with your medical long form and they will submit it for you.
Asatt – all you need to do is take your Med card and documents from the MD to any of the CDL sites for the Secretary of State (West Chicago, Quincy, Plano are a couple that I know of that can process the information for you). Go to the counter and tell the nice person there (ha!) that you need to register your Medical Card with your CDL. They will be able to do it – takes about 5 minutes once you get through the line. Good luck!
I’m from Wisconsin, all I had to do was take my card to the Dmv and show them and the person just faxed it to Madison and it is on file, I hope.
It’s very easy. Just take your card to your dmv. They will scan it. Then you will check a box stating whether you drive interstate or intrastate. And your done.
I once completed an application for a driving job with swift, submitted it to the company and was rejected without being given a reason so I’m fairly certain I have been blackballed. I also drove a Flat Bed for JB Hunt but all traces on my record have been removed. There is no shortage of good drivers but there are many devious schemes out there to make it appear so. The economy can easily be manipulated by creating “driver shortages”. It’s a lot easier to sleep when I feel like it rather than than drive and sleep by the “book” and so to the A’holes who thought they were smarter than me … THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
