A new study published by the ATRI has revealed some shocking and disturbing data. Though many news outlets have been reporting with glee that drivers who were surveyed scored an average of 42% on a test regarding knowledge of the CSA system – a sobering thought – the more shocking story by far is that CSA enforcers who were asked the same questions scored only 67%.
This confirms that the safety scoring system that many consider to be convoluted at best is so unclear that even the very people enforcing it received a failing grade when asked questions about it.
The study surveyed a total of 7,800 drivers, the majority of whom had at least moderately unkind things to say about the CSA system as a whole. A full 20% of responders selected the least favorable option available, saying that they thought that the system was “very ineffective” at improving safety. After all, how can something be effective when no one understands it?

I have to admit my knowledge of CSA is wanting. The trucking industry has gone from one extreme end of the spectrum to the other. Where once trucking was the wild west, now it’s been regulated into the ground. I hope one day a happy balance is achieved.
