Dr. Benisse Lester has been named as chief medical officer by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Lester served as director of occupational medicine and safety for the Office of Health Affairs at the Department of Homeland Security.
Prior to joining DHS, where she first served the Federal Air Marshal Service as chief of medical programs, Lester was an associate professor at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, with an appointment in Clinical Orthopedic Surgery.
Lester is a medical review officer, senior aviation medical examiner and board certified orthopedic surgeon, with qualifications in hand surgery as well.
