Current Charlotte, N.C. Mayor Anthony Foxx has received President Obama’s official nomination to replace outgoing DOT Secretary Ray LaHood. The selection has earned praise from all sides of the transportation industry.
OOIDA said in their Landline article that “truckers welcome the opportunity to work with Foxx” and even ATA CEO Bill Graves noted that as mayor of such a large city, Foxx dealt with “very similar challenges with regard to transportation issues that I did when I was governor.”
Foxx is no stranger to dealing with transportation issues. As mayor of Charlotte, he worked to improve public transit infrastructure and broke ground on several important transportation projects.
Even other government officials jumped on the pro-Foxx bandwagon. Bill Shuster, chairman of the House of Representatives committee on Transportation and Infrastructure said that he’s “pleased” that Foxx received President Obama’s nomination.
“Transportation is important for our country,” Shuster said. “These issues are about jobs, quality of life, and prosperity. I remain committed to building consensus about how to strengthen our infrastructure, promote economic growth, and make the nation more competitive in the global marketplace. Once he has been confirmed by the Senate, I look forward to working with Mayor Foxx to achieve these goals for our country.”
The last step that needs to be taken before Foxx officially takes over for the outgoing LaHood is for the Senate to approve Obama’s pick.

There was only prosperity in trucking prior to 1981 ! There darn sure is not much money to be made nowadays unless you are a husband and wife team with a reputable company or brokerage.
Important transportation projects? You mean light rail and trollies for uptown? What a joke. The city has only 2 full time truckstops. Pilot ,which you better wear a bullet proof vest and a gravel lot with deep holes that you can find Hoffa in. He told the media that he wasn’t running for another term to spend time with family. Another liar in the DC realm.
oh no,we’re in real trouble now, putting someone in office that doesn’t know one thing about the trucking industry!!
“Doesn’t know anything about the trucking industry”……… and that would be a change, how?
I can see it now, more fuel taxes going towards trolley cars (his area of “expertise”) as the solution to our traffic woes. Get ready for LaHood, light……………….
