Just one week ago New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that NY Thruway tolls would not be increasing with the planned 40% toll hike. After much pressure was placed on the governor and the New York State Thruway Authority over the planned toll hike by truckers and advocates for the industry, they appeared to retreat on the toll issue. Unfortunately it looks as though the retreat was only a feint as New York State has jacked up the prices of different tolls to fill the void.
The New York Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) raised tolls on all New York City bridges and tunnels effective March 1st. Toll hikes on 5-axel trucks vary from location to location, but they all fall within a 7-12% increase.
If you’re heading across the Verrazano Bridge, the toll will cost you $80. That’s an $80 toll ONE WAY. E-Z Pass tolls are significantly cheaper, at only around $52 per direction on the Verrazano. The tolls on other bridges and tunnels tend to be cheaper. The RFK, Throgs Neck, and Bronx-Whitestone bridges tolls will be $26.07 each way.
The toll hikes are a subject of hot debate between city officials and business owners who say that the increase in bridge tolls will translate directly to higher costs for consumers. While the consumer may be picking up some of the tab, we know that it will be truckers and carriers who will be shouldering most of the burden.

These people, like CA, need to starve. Trucking companies need to charge a premium to go in there and let them feel it. Unfortunately anyone with 2 nickels to rub together owns xyz logistic – yes, logistic. Stop leaving off the “s” morons when you name your companies! Will haul it cheap. I’m still seeing rates of $1.49. I wasn’t getting that 10 years ago! This country and this industry is headed toward a granite wall 1000 ft thick at 220mph. Hold on folks.
if the shipper won’t pay the toll, don’t go. easy. it’s not the driver who is buying things in NYC, and if the citizens of NYC are willing to pay a premium to live there, so what. this is a non issue.
to think i just ran 3 loads of generators to ny after the hurricane because i felt sorry for them people.thats it .im done with ny,long island all of ny.they want to keep adding restrictions on us and raiseing tolls well let them see what its like to go without.let them companys that haul cheap go there and see how long they stay in buisiness.
NY, Ca, both places are a dead end for us, shipprs, brokers, neither want to pay. we can’t afford to. They are just dead zones to us.
