Bridgestone Tires has issued a recall on more than 36,000 tires after they showed an increased risk of tread separation which could contribute to a vehicle crashing without warning.
Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations LLC is recalling one size of its Firestone FS561 tire which it estimates has sold around 36,000 units in the US and Canada. The size 255/70R22.5 tires are the only tires that are being recalled.
According to Bridgestone, the recall was issued after a higher number of returns for tread separation and detachment occurred. It was a voluntary recall and the issue has not yet resulted in any fatalities.
Bridgestone has been contacting stores, dealers, and customers to try and replace the recalled tires, but anyone who has FS561 tires in size 255/70R22.5 should call an authorized Bridgestone and Firestone dealer to get them replaced.

I always said; Since that problem years ago! That put Firestone effectively out of business for awhile. Never Trust them again! Bridgestone=Firestone! I don’t buy either of these brands of tires anyway! I haven’t since that happened a few years back! You can’t trust people who rather re-build a brand, then permently fix the product. Don’t care what they tell you! Stick with Goodyear or Michellin. Sears also has a brand that is relatively inexpensive but I’ve had great results with called Goodride! Just FYI!
The manufacture of tires is not exactly new technology; its been going on for nearly a century. And even the chinese are now making tires for export, though I would NEVER, EVER buy one.
I quit buying Firestone tires when, in the 1970’s, they had the reputation for the tread separating on their Firestone 500 radials.
Its all about QUALITY control. There is too much, literally, riding on Big Rig tires, to buy anything but the best. Same with brakes. I have Michelin tires all around.
Its a shame about the Bridgetone as they had a great reputation as manufacturing good carcasses for retreading purposes.
One of the trucks I drove was brand new,had 75 miles on the odometer .I drove it about 75000 miles and all the bridgestone tires on it had to be replaced .I will never buy those tires again, fortunately they came with the truck and I didn’t own it so, company truck , drive it.
