The nation’s highways are crowded, but not nearly as crowded as the nation’s rest areas. Drivers often cannot find safe places to park for the night within their allotted legal driving hours and are then faced with the choice of risking their safety and the safety of their vehicle and cargo, or driving on a few extra miles and risking getting caught in violation of their HOS.
TravelCenters of America which operates TA and Petro Shopping Centers across the country is taking advantage of the drivers’ predicament. If drivers want to guarantee themselves a spot for the night, they must call in and, using a credit card, pay a non-refundable fee of anywhere from $7-$12.
The problem is that this service isn’t actually helping the issue of overcrowding at all. It doesn’t create any new spaces, and it doesn’t make any existing spaces safer. This is just one more way corporate America has their hand in the driver’s back pocket.
While they make this out to be a convenient innovation for drivers, the only real winner in this situation is going to be TravelCenters. Instead of cashing in on the parking shortage under the pretence of helping drivers, own up to the fact that you’re taking advantage of a problem that’s affecting driver safety.

$26 for DVD movies, $3.50 for barely edible steam table sandwiches, overcrowding by hoards of four-wheeler traffic in their stores, and now TA is doing this.
Somebody needs to step up and get some legislation going for us drivers. We’re the backbone of America, but everyday, we’re exploited by these truck stop chains who are to greedily make every buck they can squeeze out of us.
On top of that, we’re regulated by draconian standards, while the four-wheelers treat us as obstacles, while they practically get to get away with murder on our roads (and sometimes DO commit murder – killing each other on our highways with their speeding and selfishly aggressive driving habits).
My point is, where does it all end?
Us truckers, we’ve been reduced to second-class citizenship. DOT officers can invade our privacy without so much as a by-your-leave. Truck stops see us as a market base to exploit, the motoring public treat us like they just want us out of their way.
Make it so truck stops HAVE to respect us. Force truck stops to close to four-wheeled traffic, even subsidizing them if necessary. Make it so we get to pay the same price that everyday citizens get to pay at Walmart, but have to show a CDL in order to be able to purchase the products.
In the mean time, shame on you TA. I have always refused to buy fuel at truck stops that charge to park. After reading this article, TA and Petro will be lucky to sell me another single gallon of fuel, from ANY of their stations – that is if I choose to stop at them from here on out at all.
We provide the conveniences that America enjoys. In return for our hard work making their grocery stores and their Walmarts possible, we are increasingly serving in a capacity of indentured servitude to those who enjoy the fruits of our service.
Somewhere along the line, it is going to HAVE to stop.
What disturbs me most about this trend of reserve parking is that it takes advantage of drivers who by no fault of their own have to pay to park. It does NOT solve the parking problem and all it does is create a revenue path for truckstops. As with many paid parking options I have seen over the years. Most have failed to do what the truckstops hoped they would do. Obviously some in truckstop management still think truck drivers are made of money. I certainly on the other side know that running a truckstop requires a lot of staff and that these days a lot of drivers don’t cater to the truckstop in any form. Don’t buy a shower, don’t buy fuel and don’t buy a meal. But that’s the way it is. Some do and some don’t. I would hate to see reserve spaces sit idle all night empty because they were not reserved and yet you have tired truck drivers driving around looking for a place to park.
Corprate rich guys, with the government”s help (by passing laws),get rich off the truck drivers. The Corprate rich guys in turn pay off the government rich guys. Just like insurance companies purchasing police radar guns to give you the ticket,so the insurance companies can raise your rates. Like they say “If you want to get rich…start a company that the government REQUIRES people to have.”. It’s a government scam…And we throw “con-artist’ in jail, but let the government do it to us…and that’s ok?
You are right T/A is just rippong off drivers again! I have called T/A they said drivers wanted it. Must be the new breads.I told them they had seen the last of me buying fuel from T/A!I think every driver out there should call T/A then stop going to T/A for anything till T/A stops riping us off.Have been a driver for 37 years and this is just BS
I’ve said before, the solution to parking for ENROUTE drivers, is for the ones going home to make other arrangements as I do when I’m off duty. I see so many 4 wheelers in the truck side of the parking lot, because they are picking up or dropping off somebody who should have parked elswhere if they weren’t sleeping in the truck. I don’t care if they are cheating on the wife for the night, park in a vacant lot near the house, leave the truckstops and rest areas for those who are staying with the truck. No unattended vehicles in any truck stop would go a long way to relieving the problem. Report the trashy ones to their own company, and maybe we won’t lose places like Walmart.
After reading Ron’s and John’s responces I thought about the issue, and while not adding spaces which we need, the reserved parking sytem could be tweeked to benefit both the truckstops and the drivers. First, there should be a mandated flat rate for any truckstop that wants to use reserved spots, so that it is consistant across the country. Second, the truckstops should offer to refund or credit the fee if the drivers spend a set ammount while there, (easy to do if buying fuel or say a meal and shower). Third, The truckstops should be limited to reserving no more than 33-50% of their spaces. Fourth, drivers should be given a window of say 2-4 hours from their estimated time of arrival to get there or lose the spot. Fifth, any reserve spot that is not already being held by a paid reservation can be paid for on the spot when a driver pulls in. Sixth, any truckfound unattended for 24 hours or longer or any trailer found to be left for more than 6 hours unhooked, could be booted until the drivers paid a parking fee of say $50 a day, (exceptions being for trucks being seviced, in wich case they could be tagged with a service seal.
This way the drivers do not incurr the extra fee of parking, as long as they patronize the truckstop, spotsremain avialable if not already reserved, and those with extended layovers or time off do not tie up spots for active drivers.
Companies such as these are already overpriced. They have a right to charge what they want and I have the right to go elsewhere. Parking is tight but with planning it is available.. 🙂
Just another stick it to you scam…
This is disgusting at best! TA and Petro are taking advantage of drivers and they have the federal government helping them. I agree there is a parking problem for truckers and no matter how well you manage your 11 hour driving, ultimately you will be in violation if you dont find a spot to park when your time is up. The whole 2010 CSA is a joke and I am tired of it. This driver with 18 years experience is now officially RETIRED from the trucking industry. It sickens me to see how this once great and respected way of making a living ( I started driving in 1982) is now an over regulated industry that is only interested in how much money they can make off of the trucking industry. What a shame that we allowed the government and politicians to ruin a once valiant industry (We used to be called the white knights of the road way) to the rookie industry it has now become. The parking is just one more nail in the coffin for the industry as a whole, when will it end? Retired and disgusted, “The Instigator”.
Seems like this should be a priority!
Regardless of the inadequate parking places
At truck stops and rest areas, pay for or not , this country
And every person in it relies on trucks to move anything and
Everything consumed , worn, driven, and used.
Our job is hard enough!
With all the road construction going on in every state in t
The USA, why not incorporate a relief area for big trucks
In need of a 10 hour break, (a break and go policy)
And maintain it through the contributions of all those company’s
That benefit from the efforts of this industry and the Divers who make it
Happen!!! Thx,
John what about the drivers that have no other place to leave there truck when they go home. I’ve found nowhere else to park mine for home time.. Where do you expect driversto park on the side of the interstate or the middle of a corn field? Thats the problem… Theres not enough places to park
I disagree. We are providing our country a service that today’s market requires. Parking should ALWAYS be free for the drivers who will only be taking the required break, getting service on the truck, or spending money at their establishment. With out us they would not have any products to sell and make a profit.
I believe that all truck drivers in stead of talking about all of the problems all of the time as they do and would shut down there rigs in stead of always talking about doing it and do it we would shut down America and get what we need done
To me this news article represents a clear sign of desperation on the part of TA/Petro: a defeated company on the verge of extinction making a grab at whatever it can put in its mouth.
james c have it right i had 25years or the same thing
Everyone here is missing the point T/A is nothing more then a services provider weather it is parking or food or showers They are just taking advantage of DOT laws and rules ( I think that is smart on there part)…. The answer here is get the the government rules and regulations out of our lives give us the CDL driver the same rules as they would give another operator I don’t see four wheelers having a problem with parking We know when we are tired if there is no parking we drive on until there is… Just like a four wheeler. T/A is a private entity it should be able to do what it wants on its property (Free enterprise) We are Drivers… After 22 years of Driving I retired because of this crap( I still love the mechanics of driving) I hate the rules.Driving is no longer any fun because of them…..
Many modern drivers have ruined this reputation you speak of. I was fueling at a newer pilot just of Knoxville. while filling my tanks I watched a 50 yr old grown man pee at the pump four feet from me. I yelled at him for having no class, but it makes no difference before he’ll never change, and neither will most of them. when I parked for the night there, I backed over someone’s Wal-Mart bag full of diarrhea that was left behind. it was disgusting. truckers in general have become a disgusting breed. every parking area smells like urine, trash all over. I am ashamed to be part of what my job title is, because of how the majority of low class/no class drivers act. as a result of how I see so many treat the parking that is provided to them for free,I would offer sectioned parking so that those who actually have a little class can say maybe a little monthly fee to park in a clean area. hell, I’d pay for it. 😀 nothing will help the drivers until they change their public image, and to do so means effort.
the way i see it , it going to be the same ol BS and just a different day until driver shut down their rigs.
This really doesn’t surprise me the least bit. Wakeup up people ofcourse it’s taking advantage of drivers. How do you think the owner of the pilots bought a football team. By screwing drivers and companies with over priced everything and adding what ever they want to the fuel prices when using a card because that’s what most people use. Get you no matter what you buy
I believe in small government, however as long as the government requires drivers to obey HOS rules, the government should also provide parking, for free.
We should ban together and stop t/a for this bull there pulling. Stop using t/a. Be smart.
Many are missing the point. TA is simply seeing a need and filling it. Once again the problem is made by the government. If the government is going to mandate everything about your work then they should also have to provide the areas to do what they mandate. It’s as simple as that. The government does this with everyone including all the corporations you guys mentioned. They mandate that business follow certain provisions and then it’s left up to the company’s to pay for the people to implement and oversee these rules. No help no nothing. The people in this country have wound up all working for the government with zero pay but hey we get to live in paradise.
Unfortunately some companies tell their drivers where they can fuel, if TA is one of them, how do you boycott it?
I agree that it is corporate bullying. The food and store prices are taking advantage of the fact that you can’t just whip in anywhere and get something to eat. You pay to shower, unless you have a free shower, you pay double the price for your food and any needed necessities, now they want your money for reservations!??? Maybe people like me (a truckers wife) need to start buying land next to these corporate pieces of crap and start brining back the Real American Truck stops!!!
Unfortunately unless we all band together, what can be done?
And in the southern states Pilot/Flying J is installing natural gas fueling stations, eliminating even more parking spots.
Right on!! TA/Petro have a history of blatant truck driver abuse with lousy food and horrific prices coupled with limited choices. I stopped doing business with them the day I stood in line for 45 minutes to get a weight ticket (I think it was Denver, but I’m not sure). This “reserve a spot” money grab is just another example of a greedy corporation getting a little fatter. I believe in boycotting. And I will not patronize TA-Petro under any circumstances.

The fact is none of what we are complaining about will ever change. If we stop driving corporations will just bring in Europeans to drive. It doesn’t matter who makes up the government, ones to tax us, the other ones to give tax breaks to richers and big corporations and will the capitalist trickle down theory work ? I don’t know, it never has before. My feeling is this is an attempt to change local American labor for foreign Eastern block labor or Latin American labor.
It stops when we stop using dumps like the ta and petro for anything but fuel if your company makes you go there. The biggest supporter of shutting down rest areas in va was NATSO, and the president of Natso at the time was the CEO of TA truckstops if you all remember.Give your business back to the little guys and put the TA/Petro chain out of business!!
Dont buy their fuel
Tim
Are you a truck driver??? If you have ever had to find a spot to put a 53′ trailor and no veh to drive but your tractor for 2 or 3 days then you would know that this is not something that is very easy to get. I know I just had to pay a $500 fine for parking a trailor for a weekend and then getting it towed because even though I was told it was ok it was not. So as for parking I feel that truckers get the short end of the stick and every city that benefits from a truck driver delivering a load to their town should put out for the truckers to have a safe, FREE parking spot somewhere in the town. They work their butts off and have to pay up to $12 for a shower, double what consumers pay for food and get Absoultly NO RESPECT!!! If every person would see that without those big trucks delivering to McDonald’s, Walmart’s or even the shops that build your vehicle you would have nothing. So with that said truckers should NOT have to pay to park and as long as they have an agreement with the TA, Pilot or wherever they are parked they should be able to park for more than 12 hours.
Truck drivers parking on vacant lots would not work in a lot of areas, they are restricted. Husband dropped a trailer on a vacant lot that a friend of ours had, I came back from town past where it was parked and lo and behold a tow truck clear from 2 1/2 – 3 hrs away was hooked up to it (locks on king pins do not mean anything in these circumstances). Someone had called it in as an abandoned trailer (most likely someone who worked for the same company thinking they were going to get a recovery fee), and if I had been even 15 minutes later it. They were not going to drop it, we finally got ahold of someone at the company to tell them it was his, (on a Saturday, okay, just lucky). Since that time a small Pop’s place in town increased his parking area and he uses it to drop the trailer or the whole rig.
And I doubt if this would have any bearing on anything Walmart does, or doesn’t do. I haven’t ever seen trashy trucks parked at any we have been around. Once again city ordinances have a lot to do with where a person parks.
When will we learn?? We are over 3 million strong, we have the power to change what we don’t like. Will we ever do it?? No. Why? Because we (the drivers) can never agree on anything. If you think about all the people we SUPPORT by our hard work, lack of home time and crapy living conditions, you can then understand what a raw deal we are getting. What if no trucks ever stopped at TA, wouldn’t that be a trip. Tell them to take their $12 parking and shove it. Come on drivers lets get together and change some things. lead, follow, join in but do something, or else quit complaining!!!!!!!
Just what we DON’T need….more government intervention!! Business & truckers will figure this out. Stop early, leave early. All kinds of solutions ate out there, but p l e a s e stop looking to the government to fix things. They will all to gladly take over even more areas of our lives!!
It’s called capitalism! If you have the opportunity to make a buck, you do it & so do I. If someone has prices that are excessive, we can go someplace else. Don’t blast the system that is putting money in your pocket & food on your table!
How do you boycott it? You get all your company drivers togather and say NO we will not fuel at TA. What will the company do fire all of you. With a shortage of over 800,000 drivers in this country I think NOT.
I’m so going to hang up my CDL soon.
Hard to guess if this will work, Motel type reservations for a parking space so you can DEPEND on a spot to get further down the road than you could otherwise plan for…..
I kinda see the point in the attempt.
Couldn’t afford it as a rule, but there ARE those times when it could be worthwhile….
We certainly need a LOT more parking availability, but no matter HOW many spaces are avail. in general, popular areas will STILL fill up.
SO, if it pays to get close to NY for example, I’d have to consider it. (presently stop 3 to 4 hrs. away just to get a space).
Plugging in for Phone & TV died, as well as the more recent Idle-Aire attempt – some new versions out there… We’ll see…..
Even worse! Drive through the TA’s that have the “call ahead parking” and you’ll see that while the industry needs more available parking spaces, the so-called “reserved” spaces are left empty and are thereby wasted. It is on every trucker to NOT USE THIS “Service”. If we refuse to enable them, then they will soon learn they have decreased their market base by shrinking their available parking. My company operates over 2,000 tractors and at every opportunity, I request that my fueling be done at companies that do not charge for parking and I hope others do the same. Shame on you TA!
If the truckstops would allow bobtails to park in the regular parking area therefore freeing up some spaces. Also some of these truckstops were built years ago not forseeing the increase of truckstops. Also local cities don’t want truckstops. They’re afraid of THE IMAGE.Hookers, drugs, piss bottles and such.
The solution is definitely NOT more government regulations. Forcing TA etc to not charge more for a service or jump through other hoops will ony cause them to raise other prices elsewhere. In other words you will pay for it out of your pocket no matter what. After all, they are in business to make money any way they legally can. Think about it… if you had a few million dollars of your own money invested in your truck stop you would try to maximize your profits just like we all do driving a truck. The solution is MORE competition or open your own truck stop to compete with them. If you provide better service, food and prices EVERYONE will come to YOUR truck stop and the TA’s of the world improve or die. That’s the law of supply and demand. That’s the best way to get what you want. Vote with your wallet and vote for free enterprise and capitalism.
Drive happy and be grateful you have a job.
What?
parked, parking and will park on ramps maybe except MI and some north-east states with narrow ramps
We have all heard over and over if we shut down, things would change. I completely agree! But there are too many guys who can’t afford to shut down. We don’t need a country wide shut down anyway. Just boycott the Washington DC area where the thieves are. After a day or so of their wives not finding what they want on the shelves and realizing why they can’t find what they want, the real prpessure will be put on those as@$*%#s. This way the loads can still run to the rest of the country and guys can still feed their famewilies. Think about it!
Let’s not get our panties in a bunch. They already tried and failed with the IdleAir program
due to prohibitive overhead, namely labor. This mens they’ll have to pay a crew of staff round the clock to answer phones and manage the lot. The extra labor is at least 4 persons or more per store with labor and benefit fees approximately 400-800 daily for parking of 50 spa ces or so at 8-12 each or $400-600 daily per store. Considering that nothing sells at 100%, it’s easy to see that yhe program will never pay for utself and this will, like IdleAir, quickly go by thr side of yhe road. And with the ill will indicated by the posters in this thread, it’s also easy to calculate the additional lost revenue on top of the parking. Clear money loser for TA Corp.
I agree this is just a rip off. And it creates more of a problem as I tend to see many of the ‘reserved’ spots sit empty all night. Its outrageous.
As for the person that said no unattended vehicles at the truck stop. Thats just not feasible for some. I live in a small town where trucks are not allowed on my street. The company I work for has a policy that says if i cant park at my house, I have to to have an ‘authorized’ parking location. Meaning I have to give them the address, phone and name of person who said its ok to park there. The ONLY place I can park is a truck stop. If you park in an abandoned lot, you are most likely going to be towed. Which is why this company has this policy i am sure. You are NEVER going to find a truck stop that doesnt have a few dropped trailers, or empty vehicles of drivers who are on time off. Just not going to happen.
This why there’s going to be an otr driving shortage sooner than later. Nobody will win
Actually I don’t see this as helping TA or Petro, how many drivers that would park to go in and eat, buy some things & spend 20-30 bucks then leave, that won’t be able to park as all the spots are either full or reserved? Also, is a spot going to be blocked by drivers that need a parking lesson or are on either side that are hanging over the line & I can’t get in the spot? Then what?
just another example of corprate capitolism
This just shows how Truck Stops are gouging drivers. With already over inflated prices for food and necessities drivers are soon going to be forced to pay to park. Most drivers average $.35 a mile or about $750 a week for the 70 hours they burn up on the log book, not to mention the down time while still living in the truck. These gouging practices have to stop. Truckers took the sacrifice to keep the economy from totally collapsing, time we got something back!
Its Not gouging!!Its RAPING.Drivers are asked to do more for less. With the ever changing rules and regulations its time for additional pay.SAY NO TO CHEAP FRIEGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shuting Down The Rigs Will get the attention! I own mine and would shut down in a miniute.
Thanks for the idea. If the money is used to build a larger lot I’m all for it. Most drivers seem to drive into a spot at the first hint of nightfall and then hoard out of the place at the break of dawn without spending a nickel. Some of you crack me up. We have to drive all night. Sleepyheads!
Maybe we all should rally & not drive for 5 days and see how that effects the economy. That would give a wake up call to Corperate America and Federal Goverment. Of course the fear factor is that the Company Driver would most likely lose there job.
Personally, I think this article shows how the government is cutting back on infastructure spending (ie rest areas) and the private sector responds by taking advantage of the situation, in order to increase their profits (I doubt, by the way, they will use most of the money to build more parking spaces, because too much supply, would just sink parking prices). Democrats promised, in the 08 election that they would spend one trillion dollars on our decaying infastructure, but didn’t keep their promise. Republicans didn’t bother to make those kind of promises. Banks got bailed out though! Jobs continue to be “offshored” and real wages (adjusted for inflation and accounting for cutbacks in benefits, breaks, increased work load, ect) continue to decline. It’s a shame. Particularly since American worker productivity continues to increase at around 1-2% a year.
I don’t own my own rig, and hope to some day, but after years and years — even though I know it’s still gonna be a long hard road ahead of me *to even own my own rig*, without hesitation I would shut down if enough drivers would agree to shut down at the same time to make the point to the fuel companies, to WALMART, C & S, the freight companies, all the evil “soul drainers” that are sucking the life out of drivers and the economy and America in general.
EOBR’s & SPEED I’ve noticed lately how the shortage of time has increased speed on our highways, The on duty time continues to tic wether you drive or not, inturn reduces the product (driving). The more time spent sitting the less time driving, this increases speed, we have to cover as much distance in a shorter time, hens an increase in speed. The OBR’s are causing this problem by raping what time you have to produce the product, (example) I sit in a shippers facillity for 2 hrs waiting to be loaded, .50 doing inspections, .50 fueling, thats your on duty not driving time, any more time after that reduces your product (driving). The harvard grads in washington (FMCSA), think these idiot boxes reduce fatigue, the by product is seeding, they spend millions of our tax dollars on studying fatigue reduction but none on the by products. These rocket scentist, have doctors, lawyers, and lab rats on the payroll giving them the answers their looking for, and refuse to look or lisen to the poeple who live and breath this life daily, your opinion has no weight or credit to these poeple who make up rules that dictate your daily being, they would rather believe some assholes payed answer rather than some nobody truck driver, these so called do gooders justify their actions with public safety and crash reduction, in reallity their doing as much harm as good. I drive I94/I80/I90 corridor regularly 5-10 mph over the limit is normal the shortage of time increases the danger and raises roadrage to the point of distraction, Im in a hurry, your not moving fast enough, get out of my way Im going to be late for my appt or I have to beat the clock to find a parking place before I go into violation, this is something that has been created by the (FCMSA) and no one eles, they hold total blame for dangers they’ve brought into exsistance from their pisspoor studies, a hurry up and make up an answer and we’ll mandate it, even if it makes no sence. Some thing for ya’ll to think about.
I hope this doesn’t create a rift between the truck stop and the trucker. The truck stops are a home away from home. The people who work at truck stops work hard and deserve their income too. This once viable industry also created loud mouth entitlement people that would talk down to many of these hard working people. It costs the truck stop allot of money to keep the place clean and efficient for drivers. What other truck stop gives you free seconds on just about anything that you order in the restaurant or a huge buffet like Petro? The showers are normally clean?More TA’s say don’t worry about the coffee than to charge for it.Would you rather be swiping your card every time you get a cup of coffee or just get a cup of coffee and get moving? It takes money to make money, and eventually it might come back around to bigger parking areas at TA’s and Petros.Besides, like some other drivers said, some people need to have a place to park when at home. And I have found it convenient to reserve a place to park when out in Oregon and loading south and coming back north to head East when I know I wont get back till 03:00,when all the spaces will be used up.Works pretty good for things like that.
Why does it always need to be an extreme? One or the other? Why can’t we work together and try to find a solution with out getting all spastic like the entitled driver of the 70’s and 80’s left us?Anyone knows that you can’t talk to people like an angry wannabee Movie Star and get any good results out of it.You might not think that you are paying for rest areas,or you forget about it,but you are.Why aren’t we getting on the States for waisting that money with fuel tax’s and tolls? That’s where it needs to stop. Here, you are talking billions compared to what the truck stop charges you.Is it just because it seems that it is easier to pick on the truck stop than the the government. Is the government to big for you so you want to pick on the private business? That’s why you get picked on back as a private business because you have lost all reality to the problem that private business is being pushed out by socialist government.
And what about those truck stops that put a gate up and charge to park in the entire lot if you don’t buy anything? So if you want discounts for reserved parking if you buy something, then you should also consider that the person that doesn’t pay for anything should pay a parking fee.
But the bottom line is this.It is a private business and if you don’t like it then you can go somewhere else, but I would prefer that if people are going to get angry, then lets get together and get angry at the government for raking in billions in highway deals while they send you to pack truck stops to “demand” that they run it your way.Get Real.
Pilot and Flying J were that way with all the free goodies. But it is getting evident that it is catching up with them to.No free coffee. The inconvenience of having to swipe your card that you might remember.Sure, they remind you,but I can see that that is getting old to them, and I can see where they will eventually be forced to change to,because the entitlement society just doesn’t see that it takes an investment to get something back.
We need a constant balanced flow of the economy and that isn’t going to happen untill we get on the government to start balancing the economy with the rest areas and tolls.
Demand that they give lower prices to truck drivers? There are plenty of Walmarts around.Isn’t that what tax deductions are about anyway?Demand that the IRS give better tax breaks to truckers.Besides, the stuff you get at The truck stops are made the same place that they are at Walmart or the dollar store.Buy a Rand McNally,it will list all kinds of places that you can go and park and shop.
Get your head out of the 70’s and 8o’s man.Get in the real world.
