Transfix, previously known for its digital brokerage services, has shifted its focus to providing cutting-edge SaaS solutions. This transition, led by CEO Jonathan Salama, has been streamlined due to the company’s existing expertise in developing broker-focused technology.
A Swift Transformation
Salama attributes the quick transition to the fact that Transfix had been internally developing and refining its technology. This foresight allowed the company to swiftly introduce its first tangible product: a suite of AI-based solutions initially intended for internal use.
No Mixed Roles
Salama made it clear that Transfix never intended to sell software while still operating as a broker, stating, “I don’t believe a broker would buy software from another broker.”
The AI Suite Unveiled
Transfix’s new product line comprises five distinct AI-driven tools: AutoBid, AutoAccept, AutoSched, AutoBook, and AutoValidate. These tools leverage machine learning to enhance decision-making and boost productivity. Notably, AutoValidate employs generative AI, a first for Transfix.
First Customer and Lessons Learned
The suite’s first customer is NFI, which recently acquired Transfix’s brokerage operations. Salama emphasized that their experiences as a digital brokerage informed the development of these solutions, aiming to resolve pain points and improve data insights.
Deep Industry Insights
Transfix targets companies that have long neglected these technological advancements. Salama stated, “We’ve been thinking about these issues for ten years, so it’s really exciting.”
AI: The Umbrella Concept
Salama described AI as an overarching concept encompassing machine learning, generative AI, and neural networking, although the latter is not currently utilized in Transfix’s offerings.
Future of TMS
David Broering, president of Integrated Logistics Solutions at NFI, highlighted that AI will drive the unbundling of traditional transportation management systems (TMS) in favor of more dynamic components. Salama elaborated, describing existing TMS applications as outdated and inefficient, akin to basic customer relationship management tools.
Real-World Applications
An example of the suite’s practical application is AutoAccept. This tool automates freight acceptance decisions, which are typically made manually by brokers. By using a decision tree based on predefined guidelines, AutoAccept streamlines this process, saving significant time and effort. Salama shared that account managers previously spent hours on weekends just to accept shipments, a task now automated by AI.
Transfix’s new AI suite aims to reduce operational costs and increase efficiency, ultimately transforming the logistics industry’s approach to transportation management systems.
