A UPS Freight driver has earned the unofficial title “Knight of the Road” after he helped rescue a man who was trapped in a burning car. The driver, Tony Linton, was driving at around 2:15am when he was flagged down by a man in the middle of the road. When he pulled over, he noticed that the car on the side of the road was on fire and that there was a man trapped inside.
Other cars started pulling over as well to help out.
“I ran over with my fire extinguisher and started spraying,” he said. “I bet we emptied four extinguishers, and the fire wasn’t going out. I looked down and told the guy ‘Buddy, we gotta get you out.’ He reached up and gave me his hand, but I couldn’t get him out.”
Once the other drivers arrived to continue dousing the flames, Linton went back to his truck to call for help on the CB. Other motorists continued to help including the newly-arrived Indiana State Patrol and two construction workers. The construction workers had pry bars with them and used them to rip the seat out from the floor of the vehicle and pull the man out.
“Thank God for them,” Linton said. “If it wouldn’t have been for that, he would’ve gone up in smoke. The car was in flames big time. You could hear the glass popping, and man was it hot.”
The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for head injuries and burns.
Truckers get a bad rep, but because of guys like Tony Linton – true Knights of the Road – that doesn’t need to always be the case.

Good job!! He deserves more for saving this guys life. This would have been a horrible way to die. Wish there could be more like you
Congratulations driver….As a now driver myself and a past firefighter, you did a very good job and used the tools you had to save a life. After all, thats what its all about…. IF your ever in that situation again, take your extenguisher and spray the powder directly at the base of the flame. This will extenguish alot of fire very fast.
