Police are hunting for a trucker who knocked down a tree, got it stuck under his truck, and then dragged it for over two miles until it dislodged.
According to police in West Windsor, New Jersey, a tractor-trailer struck an approximately 30-foot tall tree in a church parking lot at about 1:10am. The tree snapped and became lodged under the truck, but the driver didn’t stop.
The tree was dragged for 2.3 miles, taking down or damaging four utility poles, a stop sign 19 mailboxes, and another tree before it was freed from the truck.
Police are currently searching for the truck and the driver.

Reminds me of the England driver that ran over a planting strip in Portland and snagged a boulder under his tandems. By the time the police stopped him it was a MUCH smaller rock.
Reminds me of the Schneider driver who caught a boulder with his DOT bumper on the trailer and dragged it about a mile before the cops stopped him. He almost made it to the highway!

Was it a Schneider or PTL driver? Remains to be seen! Welcome to our level of drivers we have now, only gonna get worse.
Must be Swift! LOL
Must be swift? Come on it can only be swift..
Must be one of the first U21 drivers.
There might be a shortage of Drivers but there is no Shortage of Stupid in this Industry any more.
Give that driver a break after all swift never told him he’d have to turn that rig around at some point.
Things like this didn’t used to happen. This isn’t just the old-timers yearning for the times gone by—quality REALLY HAS dropped!
Wrong. I’ve heard all kinds of stories from old heads.
And it’s not hard to figure out why quality has gone down. Lots of us old timers are sick and tired of chicken crap DOTinspections that are based on trumped up traffic stops and are leaving the business. I know it’s happened to me twice in the last year. Just this week I got pulled over for going faster than my truck is governed, pulling a 42,000 lb load up hill. Cop proceeded to give me a DOT rectal exam. The only thing he could find was that I forgot to record where I was when I went off duty for a 34 hr break. I explained to the Indiana State Trooper at the 121mm on the Indiana Toll Road that once the fines start flying for this garbage, I was going to take my 3.5 million miles of accident free driving and go make money with Uber. Let him spend all his time taking care of all the accidents caused.by inexperienced.18 yr old CDL drivers.
All of these new rules and regulations are giving some cops to go on witch hunts, isn’t it?
He said Indiana. That’s all we needed to know.
When I got to the word Indiana, I didn’t have to read any more. Money hungry crooks!
When company “training” is three weeks of team driving and a “wake me up if you really need help” from the so-called trainer, this is pretty much par for the course. I mean seriously, what did you think was gonna happen?!
Training isnt the issue. I was barely trained but turned out a good driver. Its the low pay from the big companies that can only hold morons for very long. I worked for western express to start and made 5/6 hundred bucks a week to give them my whole life living in a damn truck.
I work for western express now. While the idiots in Nashville have no idea how to communicate. I make damn good money with this company. Granted I’m regional it’s still more than 5/600 a week. I also stay out by choice.
Hah! My trainer said that and went to sleep. He woke up to 200′ visibility and 4″ of snow.
He said, “why didn’t you wake me up!?!”
I said, “I didn’t need any help, it’s only a dusting.”
(6 years of driving a cab in NYC, two years running the NY Thruway in winter. I can handle a little snow)
Like there were no stupid drivers back in the day. I can remember a trucker taking out a line of mailboxes up and down the road I grew up on in the 80’s. So to say this is a problem now and drivers were so much better then is crazy. Information is more available now that’s for certain. Stay safe drivers (stupid and super) truckers all the same!
I’ve had to get out of my truck and get into another “drivers”? truck to back it in or we would STILL be waiting to offload! It gets worse every day!
I’ve done that. I should’ve charged him a valet fee.
If this wasn’t a little bit funny , I would be indignant. How the heck do you drag a 30 ft. tree almost 3 miles and not get caught? Besides, New Jersey is full of A..h….s! I’m surprised that tree lasted this long. It was probably retaliation for the bogus parking ticket scam the police are running just across the way from Pennsylvania in New Nersey at the T/A truck stop. You know the one.
That’s why we see signs “No semis” “No trucks”. Usually churches’ parking lots don’t have a strong enough pavement for a big truck, but even so I see many truck drivers making U-Turns on them, or on those strip malls.
I needed a good laugh and this one hit the spot ! I think that driver was having some fun and blowing off some frustration ….
And how are they gonna find him? Tire tracks on the tree? I bet he had custom made tires with his name on the tread, so they can track him down!
“The tree snapped and became lodged under the truck, but the driver didn’t stop.”
Well, how else was he gonna dislodge it?
But seriously folks, I’m surprised it didn’t snag his air lines. Or maybe it did, and he decided to keep driving on locked tandem wheels? I suppose he’s lucky his tandems didn’t “dislodge”.
Back up?
” His/her GPS said nothing about a tree ! “
Good luck finding him (or her). It doesn’t take a lot of common sense, that after doing all that damage to escape the scene, they’re now going to turn themselves in.
Turn in the insurance claim, get another tree, fix all the other stuff and be done with it. By the time the person is caught (if they’re caught), the police will have spent twice as much on the search as what the damage cost.
ha ha..ahh ha ha…LMAO…..I hope they never find him…LMAO….to funny for sure
A idiot driver makes a bad move, and it becomes a problem with the police. Can some one explain? I must have missed the part where the truck driver was a cop….
Does this qualify for an Improper U-turn moving violation? I’m not sure. He succesfully completed the manoover. I think that asking at local TA shop about the guy with 4 flats and damages air lines would help finding him. BTW. damn these trailers can take a lot!
Maybe he was “drunk” and did not want to get caught. That makes more sense too me.
How do you take out a 30 ft tree?! I guess common sense just isn’t too common anymore.
