According to the American Trucking Association, the trucking industry had its highest revenue year ever last year, raking in $700.4 BILLION.
“Last year, we saw freight volumes grow significantly,” said Bob Costello, Chief Economist for the ATA. “Increases in freight, combined with continued tight capacity, helped drive revenues and coupled with lower fuel prices, we saw motor carriers go on a buying spree for new trucks as they replaced older equipment.”
The record-breaking figure was announced as part of the annual American Trucking Trends, a report on the industry’s achievements that the ATA publishes. Also in the report, the TA noted that trucks moved almost 10 billion tons of freight which accounts for 68.8% of all freight tonnage in the United States.

Fantastic just absolutely fantastic! The carriers went out and bought new trucks to write them off on their taxes. Now I fail to see where the carriers brought wages up to a point where they can put a driver in the seat of that truck!
New or old it still boils down to being a truck. The job remains the same and the drivers on the bottom of the food chain in the trucking world apply for food stamps!
