A truck driver was blamed for causing a five vehicle crash that claimed the life of one woman and injured another until video from a nearby post office revealed that it was the woman who blamed him who caused the accident.
Authorities who were called to the scene interviewed Angela Bashay, a woman who was involved in the crash. Bashay told them that it was the truck driver who caused the accident.
“I remember a very large white truck that hit and I flipped immediately and was dragged down Sunset quite a ways,” she said.
She even went so far as to call for the driver to take responsibility for his actions saying “I just hope that he would come forward and for the families of the others involved just to take responsibility for it.”
Based off of her testimony, police initially believed that it was indeed the trucker who caused the crash, but when they reviewed security camera footage from a nearby post office, they discovered that it was in fact Bashay’s vehicle that caused the accident and that the semi-truck hadn’t even collided with any cars.
Police are currently going over Bashay’s phone records to see how fast she was driving and whether or not she may have been distracted at the time of the crash so that they can determine if she will face any criminal charges.

Typical. Blame the trucker.
Just goes to show, they will always take the word of some jerk four wheeler over a professional driver. I’m surprised the title of the story isn’t woman blames trucker and he’s still in jail until they can decide if they can make up other charges on behest of the women.
Actually, if you read the story correctly, the police did not simply take the word of the errent\female driver over the word of the truck driver. In fact, the police went to nearby businesses, in this case a post office, to see if there was video. Obviously, the police may have had some suspicions from the beginning, and thoroughly investigated the case, which is what exonerated the truck driver. It is possible that the police were seeking further evidence to implicate the truck driver ,and inadvertently found evidence to exonerate him. Either way, they were doing their job and thoroughly investigating the alligation.
That’s the way I read it as well, they looked deeper to validate the story and found the truth. Initially they were probably hoping to identify a hit and run driver, based off of the only story they got, but instead found out what really happened.
“Hold my moscato officer, while I tell you everything that truck driver did”
“Jerk four wheeler?” or the driver of the four wheeler. I don’t think the four wheeler spoke.
Looking to see if they can charge her well first off there is giving a false statement to police for starters
I agree! ??
You’re right. What’s with this, looking to see what charges nonsense? She should have been arrested as soon as the video was found, sounds like a good Involuntary Manslaughter charge. Plus in Texas, she could be hit with false report.
Someone also died. So they have to see if she can be charge??? Why would they not charge her??!!!!
That was my first thought. Only goes to show The Trucker is the CCN of the trucking world. Nice job writer for twisting the story to make the evil bit@h an innocent bystander.
What story were you reading?
The authorities are on the continual lookout for new and more creative ways to crack down on us, while the American public, in their cars, SUVs and pickups are the real problem.
Motorists kill each other every single day. Look at the DOT signs over our interstates. “!72 Traffic Deaths This Year.” Want to guess what percentage of those deaths were cause by professional drivers?
The American public is running wild out there on America’s highways. It is long past the time for the authorities to start taking a look at the real problem.
She should face charges for obstruction she lied and tryed to blame a innocent person. She needs to be arrested for manslaughter and obstruction. She killed someone and lied about it.
This woman needs to be made an example of.
There are far too many liars that cause accidents in private vehicles then attempt to hide their involvement.
One of the above postings is correct that it has become a “free-for-all” on the US roadways.
There needs a be a reforming of the regulations on the operation of private vehicles.
Incorrect, friend. What they need to do is start *enforcing* the current laws. Total lack of enforcement is why things have gotten this way. You can put as many laws in place as you like, but without enforcement, it doesn’t mean diddly-squat.
Couldn’t have said it better.
amen!!!
I agree with you on enforcement of the laws. But the problem I see in most cities, they have to make cuts in their budgets. Where do they start, our law officers and fire depts. Totally Stupid. I can walk into any court house and you got city workers doing a whole lot of nothing. That’s where they need to cut to meet their budget. Not the men and women who protect our lives and property.
She should be behind bars, she was probably talking on her cell phone’
She should have been arrested by now. Oh wait they can’t because she blames the trucker. What a joke I deal with idiots everyday on the road. They will do nothing unless it’s the trucker.
Exactly why I love my dash cam. Had this EXACT Same bull happen to me In Nashville. The only thing that saved my story was the dash cam mounted to the passenger side mirror. It showed him coming down the ramp and slamming into the side of my trailer. He claimed I was changing lanes video showed I clearly was not. Best $100 I’ve ever spent!
Dashcams should become mandatory for all vehicles. If not for a camera, that trucker might be sitting in jail now.
Invest I’m at least a dash cam, because trucks are almost never given the benefit of the doubt. Keep on trucking, stay safe out there.
#2millmilerandcounting
people do dumb dangerous stuff around semis every day some with the police right there but nothing happens if we did the se exact thing we get pulled over and ticketed.
This is why I have put dash cam in my truck that picks up a all major portion of all activity in front of me and even the fender mirrors on those coming up…if I wasn’t driving a company truck I would install a full 360 degree system with a DVR backup. I had a 2-wheeler nearly hit me, the cop ask me if I saw anything, biker said I cut him off!!…I said officer I have it on my dash cam, he said can I see that…so I took my laptop out put it on the steering wheel, and gave him a full screen 17″ view…he said..okay the biker cut you off…that’s all I needed to see..your free to leave, and he then proceeded back to the 2 wheeler….so unless your a really poor truck driver…it does more good than bad to have a dash cam as a minimum…mine stores several hrs, then over-rights the past videos segment by segment. You can also just push a button on it and it will save that 3 minute section of video in a file in the dashcam that it wont be erased unless you manually go in and delete the file. Pretty cheap protection for $40.00 plus tax. Its saved me a few times already, including a cop that said I ran the red light, I said would you be interested in seeing my truck go through the light, he said why sure show me…so did the same as above, he said okay I guess I was sure it was red,he said your free to go…already has paid me back far as I’m concerned…Best investment I made yet….catch ya on down the road drivers.
My company has even gone so far as to put dash cams in most of our trucks. It’s getting ridiculous out here.
That sounds like a great setup. Mind sharing what system you bought or the components?
Az dog…I was going to get one of the ones at the truck stop, then I said hey I want to see just how descent these things really work….so hey I went to Walmart (I stop at Walmart once every week and restock my food stuff up..lol), so while there I went to the automotive section, I bought Pilot DashCam, this little camera is great, its small doesnt take much room, and I get great video off it. It has several settings, I have mine set for 3 min. segment videos. I comes with a 4GB Micro SD Card, you want to change that to the max the cam will support and that is a 32GB Micro SD Card(I buy the SandDisk brand as the card is heat resistant). It comes with the suction cup, 12V. Cig.Liter 10 FT Long Cord, and the short USB cord that attaches plugs into the cam power port to your USB on LapTop. Very easy to use, comes with directions that are very small type, but you can download them online and print them out or save to your computer. The screen is only 1.5″ on the dash cam itself, but its very clear and mainly I like using it downloaded to my Laptop and get the big 17″ view from there. You can Google it and you will find it on YouTube or even the Manf. sight. Its Manf by Pilot. I got the 2Year Walmart insurance plan, it was like 2 bucks. Already has paid back for itself as far as Im concerned.
Sold. How much was it?
Same sort of thing happens here every day in the UK my company now has 360 degree cameras fitted to our trucks with gps fitted to them so it records speed and even direction signals horn and stop lights on your truck it has saved £1000s
In dammage we don’t even mention cameras if we have a hit we just take details and say very little about the accident
But also most of the time it’s the other driver saying “it was the truckdriver at fault” and even being a professional driver your in the wrong sometimes I still think why do I do this job after 25years of driving all over Europe and beyond I have had a gut full of !
How many other things has she blamed people for and gotten away with it? Probably a lifetime of misdeeds. This driver isn’t the only one to get blamed for something he had nothing to do with , he was just very lucky. Buy a dash cam for self defense. And hope it works. People are mostly snakes, I’m surprised really that he didn’t get sent up the bu++pounder highway.
IF there is prior history of her being involved in accidents where someone else was at fault, I wonder if it’s possible to look back to reopen those cases to transfer liability.
It’s probably not her fault she’s got 12 kids on welfare too.
The comment regarding lack of enforcement is a good one. In my neck of the woods, there have recently been a number of fatalities in construction zones, as well as police and tow truck drivers killed while parked on the shoulder. The government response was to install ‘photo enforced’ speed limit signs. I’d be surprised if any of them actually have photo radar set up. The only time there is 100% compliance is when you see a police cruiser sitting there watching.
The real problem is peoples’ attitudes behind the wheel. Everyone is a narcissist and the world revolves around them. Their time and convenience are worth more than someone else’s life. Everyone personally owns the piece of asphalt that their vehicle currently occupies. I have had 4 wheelers nearly force me onto the shoulder when my lane was ending because they would not slow down or speed up to let me over. I pull two trailers with over 12,000 gallons of fuel on board. A potential roll-over with dangerous goods add means squat to them.
Add to the mix distracted driving (phone and texting), and see the situation will just continue to worsen.
I too see (THEM) blaming us for their faults. Diving drivers who, “have get in front of the BIG truck.”
Any traffic, we keep space for safety, oh look, an opening.
So many out there that think a truck is just an obstacle to designed to aggravate them and slow them down. They need to realize that if we could we would rather drive on highways designed only for trucks but since this is impossible there needs to be an education program required by the U.S. DOT TO EDUCATE the public that trucks need a wide berth and consequences for treating truckers like a scourge of the highways. And the police and DOT need to be ready to defend the nations men and women that keep this country supplied.
I’m glad the truth came out! And I hope they put this news on tv so others motorist would think twice about lying.
She needs to be prosecuted for false report
That’s why we need cameras on our trucks
Perjury is a felony.
Over here in North California the 4 wheelers are terrible drivers and I mean terrible. There’s going to be a bad accident someday soon I just know it.
The truck driver and his company are already tagged with a crash on his CSA. Fault has no bearing on his CSA score.
A 5 car crash, a fatality and injuries can put the company out of business and the driver out of a job. Some ambulance chaser has probably already contacted everybody involved and has the case filed already. Legal fees to defend it will break the company and the driver.
Actually said the truck driver not only did not CAUSE the accident, but wasn’t even involved.
Hopefully that clears them from CSA
False reports such as this should carry the death penalty!
I now see the point of having a dash cam. But what if cop won’t look at it?
Danny…Just kindly tell the officer you will be bringing your proof via your dash cam into court…I haven’t meant an officer yet that isn’t interested in what you would have to prove/show otherwise first….don’t give attitude or you will get one back that you wont exactly like from the officer…offensive not defensive conversation is best way with the officer
I can think of 3 charges to arrest her for. Obstruction of justice, false informing, giving false testimony. Attend to commit insurance fraud. Plus if they would have done a drug and alcohol test on her immediately. Then they might have had her for driving under the influence of either alcohol or a narcotic/cannabis drug. Plus what ever else they could get her on.
Mandatory 128 gig exterior facing go_pros for everyone
One down. 320 million to go.
Wreckless drivers that is…
And this is why I’ve had a dashcam in my truck for almost a dozen years now. Two weeks ago I was involved in a 10 vehicle wreck south of Toledo, Ohio. The Perrysburg officers investigating the wreck asked me what happened and I just played the video for them. I recommend dash cam use for everyone. Get your own so the video is yours, NOT the company’s property.
She made a false police report. That right there is a crime. Charge her with that and then, if I were the DA, I’d pile on anything more I could. She caused an accident that caused a death, manslaughter should probably go on that, too. If she was on drugs or alcohol impaired, it can escalate quickly. The hell with these people like this.
Again, like I’ve wrote before, this is why I always drive with my dash camera on. It only cost $18 dollars on eBay and works great. I already posted one car spinning out in front of me. A dashcam can save the driver a lot of headaches.
oh so that was YOU
I’ve thought of buying one but I thought they were too expensive I’m definitely going to get one with this paycheck .A week ago I almost had an accident in Atlanta because the trucker in the lane to my right slammed on his brakes to avoid hitting cars that were stopped at an exit ramp in front of him. He pulled into my lane and slammed on the brakes.I had to slam on my brakes, otherwise I would have hit him for sure. He could easily blame that on me and I would be held accountable for his mistake.
With a fatality crash, the police are going to complete every aspect of their investigation before they charge someone, unless DUI at the scene is determined. It allows them to find out all of the information possible, identify and interview additional witnesses, obtain video evidence, and examine vehicle data recorders (if applicable). If they suspected the professional driver, they’ll also subpoena his phone records to determine the phone status at the time of the crash, and validate his log entries against his phone records.
I know some here think that the lying sack should have been charged right away. It’s better to let the investigation finish itself out, and then pile it onto her.
That’s why I have a dashcam. Saved my ass once already .Guy from NY driving a rental car lost control and slammed into my sidebox. Tried to say I clipped him. Cop asked me to tell him what happened and I said I don’t have to tell you, I can show you. On video. He said that’ works. Handed me the other drivers info and said have a nice day .You can go .
