Are You Ready For CDL Tests?

If you are planning on taking the CDL test, then you will need to prepare.  While different drivers will approach the CDL test preparation differently, here are some CDL test tips that can help make the process easier for you.

Studying

A big part of your CDL test preparation is studying for the test.  To be able to study effectively, you have to know what is on the test and focus on the parts of the CDL test that you do not know.  You should also study when you are most alert to make the most of your CDL test preparation.

Practice

One of the best things that you can do to prepare for your CDL test is to use practice tests.  Practice tests help you to get a feel for how the CDL test is set up, and as part of your CDL test preparation can show you how much you know.  You can use them open-book style to help you learn the material, or take a practice test to see if you know enough information before you pay for the real thing.

Taking the CDL test

Part of your CDL test preparation should involve learning how to take the test itself.  Here are some tips for taking the CDL test:

• Read the questions carefully.  If you try to read the questions and answers too quickly, you could miss out on important information.  Many people who look over the answers they got wrong on the test actually knew the correct answer, but simply misread the question or the provided answers.  An answer that looks correct at first glance may be wrong if you read it carefully.
• Your first answer is best.  Assuming that you carefully read both the question and the answers, usually your first impression is the one to go with.  If you have time to go back and rethink your answers on the CDL test, only change those that you are absolutely certain are incorrect.
• Think about your timing.  Your state may or may not time the CDL test.  Either way, you don’t want to linger when taking the test.  Check the clock frequently to make sure that you are not spending too much time on one answer.  If you don’t know the answer, skip the question and move on – you can always come back to it later.  If you find that you are flying through the CDL test, check yourself to make sure you are reading every question and answer carefully.
• Be wary of “trick” questions.  There will be some questions on the CDL test specifically designed to check whether or not you are paying attention.  Watch out for absolute answers such as never or always.  Also watch out for questions including the word “except” or the word “not” as they are generally asking you to pick out the one that doesn’t belong.
• Don’t leave any questions blank.  The CDL test is multiple choice, and you do not lose anything by guessing.  Go back and reread the test questions that you skipped.  Then, pick the best answer and move on.  You still have a good chance of guessing right.
