Truckers already approved for Proposition 1B grants, but waiting for the funds to come through, can temporarily haul out of the Port of Los Angeles past the Jan. 1 deadline. The port commission will allow older trucks to operate at the port until their funding arrives, or through April 30, 2010, whichever is earliest.
Drivers with engines made prior to 1994, and non-retrofitted engines made between 1994 and 2003 must still comply with the Jan. 1 deadline if they have not been approved for the grants. Truck owners must be approved for the Prop 1B extension through the South Coast Air Quality Management District. The timeline for applications to the program expired in August.
