Over 40 million fire extinguishers have been recalled recently according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Of those, approximately 2.5 million were sold along with commercial trucks.
All 40 million were manufactured by Kidde, but many of them are labeled with different brand names, so if you have a fire extinguisher in your truck (which you should), check it against the CPSC recall notice here.
There are 134 different models being recalled, some of which were manufactured as far back as 1973 or as recently as August of this year.
According to the recall notice, the recalled fire extinguishers “can become clogged or require excessive force to discharge and can fail to activate during a fire emergency.” There have been approximately 391 reports of “failed or limited activation or nozzle detachment” resulting in at least 16 injuries, 91 reports of property damage, and one death.
If you find your fire extinguisher is in the CPSC recall notice, you can request a free replacement from Kidde at (855) 271-0773 or at www.kidde.com.
And while you’re checking that, check how old it is as well. If it’s non-rechargeable and over 12 years old, it’s time for a replacement regardless if it’s a model that’s being recalled!
Stay safe out there, keep your head on a swivel, and the shiny side up!

They probably thought they were making champagne bottles. I bet they figure a truck driver on fire is cause for celebration.
