Navistar has announced that it is issuing a recall for over 20,000 trucks. According to the company that builds the transmissions, the problem is not limited to only Navistar trucks.
Eaton Transmissions supplies truck manufacturers with transmissions for many of their vehicles. The problem is with certain Eaton ECA heavy-duty truck clutches. The recall notice says that if the clutches fail, it could result in “unintended vehicle movement” which can “increase the risk of a crash.”
For Navistar, those clutches are used in certain 2019 International HV, MV, 2018-2019 HX, LT, RH, LoneStar, ProStar, WorkStar, and 2018 TranStar automated manual transmission vehicles.
According to Eaton, Navistar isn’t the only truck manufacturer that it supplied transmissions to which may have the potentially faulty clutches. There is no word yet on which other models made by which other manufacturers may be affected. Eaton says it’s already working with other manufacturers on creating recall schedules. It looks like this already sizable recall could get even bigger.
Navistar will be notifying owners and dealers and will be performing the fixes free of charge. The recall has been set to begin on January 18th, 2019.

Just learn how to shift a manual. Problem solved.
Groo says
You can’t expect the idiots they are trying to shove in the seats these days to figure out what to do with the 3rd pedal and the shift stick.
In general; as things get easier to use, they get harder to fix.

Eaton is not giving out the rest of the story. My 2019 International just started having transmission fails notices show up on the dash yesterday. When this happens the truck will not move. It had a software update to the transmission about 2 months ago. This is a software problem that affects the shifting. When I put it in manual and start out in a higher gear it seems to work ok. So now Eaton has to figure out how to correct their really bad update.

The company I work for Eastern drainage 123 Pennsylvania Avenue ..Kearny …New Jersey… my company have start leasing 2019 International from Penske and it is one of the worst automatic transmission I have you ever driven for 30-plus years …this is one of the most devastating insult to a professional driver… when you’re heading out with a load and your transmission overheat within a mile or two and the Truck stand still don’t move in traffic… this is the first automatic truck I have driven… I do not like automatic truck ….they’re sluggish …they do not produce enough torque for taking off… I was just forced by my boss to drive it ….. I’m trying to get in JB Hunt and I spoke to them about a stick shift …which is available … so I would be leaving Eastern drainage permanently… Navajo Runninghorse
