It seems like every week or so, you hear about another driver who hits an overpass or destroys a bridge and then blames it on his GPS for sending him on that route. That excuse is bad enough when it’s a matter of clearances or weight, but what about when the road the trucker blames the GPS for taking him on isn’t even a road?
A patrol officer in Atlantic City was driving near the boardwalk at around 5:30am when he saw a truck parked nearby with its flashers on. According to the Ventnor Police Chief, Douglas Biagi, the officer thought it might be part of the Army Corps of Engineers dune-building projects. But when he got closer he saw that it was a tractor trailer sitting where no tractor trailer should be sitting – on a wooden pedestrian boardwalk.
According to authorities, the driver had turned onto the boardwalk at Albany Avenue where the entrance is particularly wide. He claims he was directed to do so by his GPS. But while the boardwalk was initially quite wide, the pedestrian walkway quickly narrows. Nevertheless, he managed to continue along for nearly 3 miles before he got to a location that was too tight for him to make a turn.
Authorities were at a loss for how the driver had made the mistake – and apparently so was the driver.
“He had zero explanation,” said Chief Biagi to the Philly Voice. “I mean, the ocean is on one side, there are railings on both sides. There’s no mistaking you are on the boardwalk.”
Public works employees were able to get the truck off of the boardwalk by removing railings and benches, putting down more sand so the truck could make the turn, and then even unfastening the trailer and hauling it off separately.
According to Chief Biagi, the carrier will be responsible for paying for the cost of removal and the cost of any repairs that need to be made to the boardwalk. Surprisingly though, despite being charged with several local ordinance violations, the driver won’t be issued any driving tickets since the boardwalk isn’t actually a roadway.

Sharp as a marble…
All it takes is common sense did the driver even graduate high school or speak english
CRST ☹️ Need I say more ‼️
That’s what I said.. look at the name..
Shows the mentality and training of new drivers.
Were you ever a new driver?
Yes, but I didn’t do anything that stupid, how can you even make such a comment , you must be on the same mental wavelength
you tell him shelly
Ya I was …but I learned to use the faithful Rand McNally truckers atlas and check my route before engaging into some idiotic venture like that…but that’s the difference between a truck driver and a professional trucker!
Yeah I was a New driver back in 1975 and I didn’t go to school because they didn’t have schools back then AND I started out driving in city first then I went O T R
When NAVIGATING open MAP BOOK. Find beginning, Find end. STRETCH STRING POINT A TO POINT B. See what roads you want, freeway or secondary. run route. Take WEATHER INTO ROUTE.
New is no excuse for stupid!
4 wheeler with training wheels
Some of you drivers need to learn how to read a map….If you cant read a map you need to get out of trucking….You cannot rely on just a GPS….Do your homework….Proper Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance Period….
Thank you!
I totally agree. Even if you don’t have a map, go into your cell phone and plan the route in the same app that you use to see if the weight stations are open or close, or simply use google map to compare the route with the GPS.
We need to learn that we are driving a “Destructive 80,000 lbs Beast”
Hey driver what app is it to find out if weight stations are open or closed?
Trucker path
Truckerpath
You don’t need a weigh station to weigh and do an inspection! Portables are still in effect!
TRUCKER PATH! YAY! my fav!
Amen!
The problem is: when you can find a map, most lack the detail that they did 10, 20, 30 years ago. Most State maps had fairly detailed information on the larger cities, and larger rural roads.
BS. Just another lame excuse for stupidity.
Thank you!
Jim, It goes like this: Piss Poor Planning Provides Piss Poor Performance.

C’mon! This must be one of them fake news! Nobody can be this stupid!
Really? Take a look at that picture my friend 🙂
Yeah, but I saw a picture of Trump rescuing kittens too.
😂😂😂
Lol
CRST drivers can be!
Hey hey hey I am a CRST driver and have never made mistake like that or close! I know the jokes but that is just a idiotic driver period chop it anyway you want!
Do you not remember the PTL driver crossing a closed bridge and getting on a footpath? Blamed it on his GPS too! We can educate ignorant, we can medicate crazy, but alas there is no cure for STUPID!
Yup that was in the twin cities freaking idiots
Only stupid and lazy drivers will blame the GPS or the devil made do it, Every trucking company provides an Atlas for truckers, you don’t use it then it’s your lost and your job too. For generations, Rand McNally has been compiling accurate, detailed maps and travel information into the ultimate road trip accessory. Your career, invest in it.
lollol
Yes they can be….CR ENGLAND BLOCKS CORNERS IN THE REST STOPS ALL TIME leaving the tails of their trailers in everyone’s way! Werner dot breaks next to scales blocking them. Crst students only get 2 weeks in a school and it’s more like a county jail field trip than proper instruction..The major carriers are to blame
. but you’ve never seen larger groups come I every Sunday 100 students. They make guaranteed 5 times the Revenue off new students getting 8k for for each one whether they graduate or not! The revenue from the government than they ever could as a carrier..
I agree totally.people who want to become truck driver’s need to have a common sense test first anybody that can’t tell the difference between a street and a board walk has absolutely no common sense and should not be driving anything that has a motor
I have a picture of a S.W.I.F.T HANGING OFF A CLIFF ….above the Georgtown Loop Railroad….seems the 7% GRADE WARNING FLASHING LIGHTS and Road warning sign saying Black ICE next ten miles
were not enough to slow this driver…even the LANE Narrows and construction zone sign were not enough.
Frameb-able and free!
With so many individuals who are allowed to take drivers tests in 30 plus languages such as NY and the almost non existent pool of people that carriers can hire it’s not a far stretch of the imagination to see something as nuts as this. People don’t have to be foreign to be without common sense many red blooded Americans are rock boxes as well.
CRST, should I go any further?
😀
Crash Roll Stunt Team
CRST
It could have been a Swift driver or a JB driver.
That driver is a big Dummy
Those garmin gps are garbage!! For a regular gps made for cars is about $125 but to get one made for truckers is about $500…. after a year of using a garmin gps, they turn to crap! I have had so many problems with it especially with the power cord! All i gotta say is yeah i can see how that could have happen because my gps has done the same thing, it gives me directions to a dirt narrow road!! Come to find out it’s the wrong place!! Every now and then i get directed to some place wrong!! I have rely on my cell phone gps to try to get me to the right place!! I can understand this driver’s dilemma especially when driving at night!! I wouldn’t put the blame entirely on the driver! Gps do lead you to wrong places or dispatchers give you a wrong address!!
Uh……….The problem is relying on a GPS!!!! It is solely the driver’s fault! Ever heard of situational awareness? Pay attention to road signs, & read a dag gone Motor Carriers Atlas! Call the shipper or receiver for directions! I mean dang it’s not rocket science!
Do you mean those tiny little words that you have to be 15 feet away from to read? Or the fancy signage on the side of the building that’s not lit up at night? Or the fact that the local ordinance will not even allow proper signage or even building numbers? I agree that the GPS are just tools or sometimes crap. And that sometimes the addresses that you are given are not for the shipping dock but for the corporate office.
Sometimes it is the Complex architects and the local ordinances that are to blame for trucks getting into places that they do not belong night vision goggles.
We are called PROFESSIONAL DRIVERS for a reason. Some live up to the name and some don’t. I have been driving for nine years and i am using the same gps for nine years. Never even updated the map. I use it for interstates mostly but when I get close to my destination i look at the roads via satelite view on google maps and street views as well. Make sure the roads are good for trucks plan my route and then go. Or if all else fails I call the shipper or a reciever and ask for directions. As simple as that.
I use a RM gps. Back it up by scoping the route on google maps. With street view you can even see the signs coming in. Absolutely no excuse for this with the technology available. Remember when you used an atlas and wrote directions on your windshield? Idiot.
Thats great but consignees dont answer their phones or know directions when they do. Youd be amazed how they get home at night.
The Only time I have been called a Professional Driver is when I’m getting pulled over. But in fairness years of driving have diminished my keen eye sight especially in Night time. It’s harder for me to see. My Rand McNally GPS has also let me down like this and I update mine on a regular basis..still get questionable routes. What I do now is Get my route on GPS , and my Google Maps from phone and compare. .I like the ability to see the roads through google maps ahead of time Remember you can’t be lazy you gotta do your leg work.
Thats exactly what I do. Google street view saves a lot of stress.
I’ve been doing the exact same thing for years now and it’s a fantastic system. If my gps wants to take me down a road/path that’s not truck friendly, I’ll just make a way point via the route I need (on the gps) and off I go. Good to hear that other drivers are doing they’re homework!
Come on common sense
Then Pay the money for a good GPS, and update it regularly, about every 3 months. I started out with PC MILER, then tried a Rand McNally, I’ll keep my Rand.
I’ve had my Garmin dezl 760LM for about three years now and it has never let me down. It might route me the long way around to a drop due to lack of info for city streets, but it keeps me legal – always. Like all GPS, you have to keep it updated.
the problem here is that the guy put his life and livelihood in the hands of a computer..and he’s not flying a plane, ya know?
He risked killing some mother and child in a carriage..thinks of all the possibilties!
stupid is as stupid does.
CRST is a billion dollar company they can afford to keep hiring morons to drive for them. Millennials don’t know how to read a map.
Millennials can’t make change at a check out!!
The Woodstock anti war, free loving, dope smoking, draft dodgers self entitled morons are running this Country now, just wait till the Millennials get in there!!!!! “I need to find an uninhabited Island”
Young Island,,,near Anacortes,WA. for sale.
Just the right size for one retired Truck Driver.
Good Sailing Gilligan!
CRST is cheapest company, they don’t let drivers use gps, mostly drivers using small car gps. Also Crst, wants from drivers to avoid the tall, that way, they can’t use the road map.
Also CRST is team company, drivers can’t sleep while the truck muving, team drivers is very dangerous on the rod, because they don’t sleep inaf.
Team driving should stop, by the law.
Team driving is how to make a paycheck, otherwise you might as well stay home on welfare. Solo drivers are great for local runs.
If you think for a moment that team Driving should be against the law, then consider the costs of your fuggin breakfast in the morning. I guarentee you’ll change your fuggin mind when the cost of your breakfast is 10x higher because it takes longer to get the delivery done.
Please tell me your not one of those brain dead drivers like in the photo.
It isn’t an age thing it’s a stupidity thing my brother!!
I agree with Rabinbull69 100 % exactly same thing I would of said
Excuse me? CRST allows GPS ? Lead driver FAILURE
Really.. As soon as he saw it was wood, he never should have made that turn!
Common sense ain’t so common, any more.
word tex word lol
give the engineer kudos for building it to last..
CRST driver was paid to beta test new Infrastructure
road building in U.S. Mandated by Congress.. the folks who
brought you the FMCSA.
I’m Having trouble believing this mess. It’s Funny how it mentions about the cop patrolling around 5:30 am? Nice and bright out there for 5:30. Also notice it says the officer thought it might be an army corp of engineers dune building project. This Looks to me as if they are infact building a dune in this photo. Also notice the orange and white barrels in the photo. I see a ramp that’s there for the backhoe to drive up and down. This is clearly a construction project. I don’t see Any police cars or police officers for that matter no wrecker or none of the railing that was supposedly removed in sight. I almost bet you that This driver was deliverying materials to this job sight and they made this story up. Just to add fuel to the fire of the trucking industry. I mean come on, I can’t see someone in their right frame of mind turning out onto a freaking wooden road, a “boardwalk at that” and not say ok this doesn’t look right and stop immediately. Not to mention 3 miles worth?????! Are you serious. Even a 12 year old would know this big truck does not belong on a wooden road.
Google it
http://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/news/tractor-trailer-takes-mile-ride-down-atlantic-city-boardwalk/article_5d18def8-ffdf-5fb9-9c51-b21937aa1690.html
Patrol officers ,know not to drive there patrol cars on the boardwalk, that’s why you don’t see officers in the picture,…that driver was probably there for hours,so when the picture was taking it was light out….Yes there probably still making repairs from hurricane sandy,,No way ,they would let an 18 wheeler on the boardwalk to deliver any material LMAO,,,Between CRST driver and this guy MIKE,,,Can’t stop laughing …Thank you LMAO
This story is 100 percent true. It was all over the news the other day in South Jersey and Philadelphia area.
Moon landing was fake too, right?
Yes the moon landing was fake…. the filmed it in miles parents basement where he lives.
You know mike you might be on to something here. Where are the 20 cherry tops fire truck news vans 100 or so bystanders at least 4-5 heavy wreckers. Plus the original picture showed a single screw day cab. So WTF??? This place would be SWARMING with activity. Oh well. Plus can someone be THAT stupid ? And last but not least. HOW DID HE MAKE THAT TURN ONTO THE BOARDWALK in the first place. Without going off on the side and flipping over????
Actually it’s a real event. Did further research. This really happened Mike.
That’s the cleanup/recovery. Did you read the article? They put sand on the corner for the off-track of the trailer. This photo wasn’t taken at 0530. It was taken some time later, as they were in the process of putting sand into the corner so the truck could turn. * eye roll*
Oh, I believe it. I can curl your hair with stories like this that happen every week. Had one driver that we had to tow off a ski lift run because his GPS told him to go there.
Can’t tell you how many times the Qualcomm GPS in our trucks route drivers under low bridges.
And I was written up for telling one of our drivers who turned down a dirt road in Kansas (on his way to Brooklyn) that we have asphalt, running water and flush toilets all the way to New York.
No, I believe the story. The drivers are the problem. Not the GPS.
who said the driver was in his “right mind” . Maybe he should have
been in his”left mind” and left the industry alone.
I stand corrected!! http://6abc.com/tractor-trailer-gets-stuck-on-ventnor-boardwalk/2436147/
What a freakin Moron!’
True dat Mike true dat,,,,But it was a great spot ,,,Ocean to the left ,,,casinos to the right…Wow this driver not only took his rig on the boardwalk ,he drove 3 miles,,3 miles wow 3 miles..This driver has done something that no other driver has done.or will ever attempt.Lol..What happens in Atlantic City stays in Atlantic City,,not in his case…LMAO
Another highly qualified steering wheel holder! 8 weeks of school doesn’t make you a truck driver! It’s NOT for EVERYONE!
Despite everything, the engineer who designed that boardwalk should get a raise because that truck is at minimum 20 tons and he clearly didn’t bust up the wood and get stuck.
And I thought only swift “drivers” did this king size stupidities !
I don’t understand the necessity to trash Swift every chance you get. There are thousands of Swift drivers who love their jobs and take pride in their appearance, work ethic and driving skills. I will be driving for Swift this coming winter and when I see a fellow brother behind the wheel that is struggling, I’m going to lend a hand not a fist.
I have a picture (real!) of a S.W.I.F.T. hanging off a Cliff.
Georgetown Loop Railroad. Silverplume,Colorado.
You can ask your Orientation and training peeps how that happened.
I pray for your safety and the other new drivers also.
I would prefer you not die doing this type of thing or take someone
with you in the process.
I want to settin’ on the beach with a hula skirt dancer when the
tsunami hits high tide…Thank You Very Much!
LMAO eh…Yup…Can u die from laughing hours straight,Every time a pass a crst,I can’t stop laughing..To all CRST drivers, please don’t cause any damage to the TROP…SMH LMAO eh
It’s a CRST driver so makes it ok😅👍
CRST stands for CRASH AND ROLL STUNT TEAM. I’ve worked for them 4 times. Yup, I’ll admit it. Always in transition to something else. Why? Because they’ll always pick you back up with no questions asked. I can’t stand driving team. Had one co-driver go on the off ramp in Toelle, Utah and he couldn’t figure out why I was flipping out on him. Everyone of them has had some sort of issue. Green is an understatement. Famous last words, “But My Trainer Said”!
CRST: Stands for Can’t Remember Shit Today! I have been driving for 23 years now. Didn’t have GPS or cell phones. Relied on a ATLAS and directions. You can’t rely totally on a GPS you have to do a little trip planning and use “COMMON SENSE” If it doesn’t look right don’t do it.
It’s obvious to me the backhoe and barrels are the construction for getting the truck off the board walk. The problems these days isn’t ELDs, Hours of Service or Equipment. It puppy mill style training. Two weeks and they turn you loose. I saw a driver one day take 4 attempts to back his truck under his trailer and he got out and looked all four times. If you can’t do any better then that, you should not be on the road in a big truck.
I overheard a flip flop wearing driver say he doesn’t us atlas that what gps for do any of u drivers remember when u used to have to call for directions and read signs I still call for directions in some instances
oh yes I do remember calling and getting directions. Also to these companies with the “vanity” addresses…just WHERE is “1 XYZ Court”? “Oh, it’s actually Smith Street, but we have a little cul-de-sac and they named that XYZ Court”. Thank you….example–Keebler in Elmhurst Il is on 1 Hollow Tree Lane…actually it’s on Larch St. Cute, but try to find it on a map/GPS.
Still call for directions tontbos day I have a GPS for reference but nothing and I mean NOTHING beats a good ol fashioned atlas. Drivers save yourself a headache learn to read one… call and get your directions. It all goes back to BASIC TRIP PLANNING!
293 miles to Casper. new driver ride along. Paper log trainee.
Said Auto logs do everything for him. Can’t fill out logbook. Didn’t have
crayon training in kiddergarten. Would not drive back even 10 miles ,refuse to show me could drive a ten speed manual. Fell asleep 4 times in 293 miles.
I was sort of taking that part as a compliment…for the smooth
ride he was enjoying under his eyelids. LOL. so sad!
I’m sorry but that is so damn ass funny he’s got to be a new driver and that CRST what do you expect. And yes I am an ex- professional tanker driver so I would know better. I busted my back years ago so I had to retire
NOT THE GPS AT FAULT. It’s the carriers LACK OF TRAINING. The stupid driver should not be allowed to drive anything again. Apparently he is to stupid to drive
1 French fry short of a happy meal.
http://www.nj.com/atlantic/index.ssf/2017/09/ventnor_city_awaits_report_on_possible_damage_to_b.html#incart_river_home
That is what hiring two week wonders will do for ya..Plus look who he works for CRST..Seems like proof that major company’s like these really are so greedy that they will hire just anyone to fill a seat..They could care less about training or expirence, not alone how to properly read a map.
That’s some funny crap right there lol I’ve got a GPS in my semi and by golly I’ve yet to have that little thing reach out and twist my arm and make me go anywhere,, duh driver common sense is SUCH A WONDERFUL THING TO HAVE.. I’M JUST SAYIN..
I never had a GPS in my truck, when I was trained I was told if you can’t read a road map and follow signs how are you going to get to your destination? Most of the time a GPS will get you to the general location, then you actually have to be smart enough to follow a road map and road signs and above all pay attention to your surroundings.
It’s not just not relying on the GPS… It’s also using common sense. I think we’ve all used the GPS and got to an area where we are going… I don’t think so.
The best part of that storie is they are an training company soo there was two drivers in that Truck lmao dumbest thing I have ever seen
Pay Peanuts, You Get Monkeys.
Bet you the Driver has an ELD too !
Need trucking job. Good at driving off road, especially on the sandy beaches. Pay is not an issue. Will need assistance trip planning and routing. Available immediately
Perfect, CRST regularly goes where its obvious not to go on the east coast check it out on the youtubes.
my nephew works for CRST and I saved this picture to bust his base balls .
You have to be smarter than the gps. On the bottom of the trucker gps’s it states this is a guide, You need to know how to read a map and signs and if it looks like a wooden bridge then common sense says don’t go on it. This is part of the problem with technology and the dumming down of younger people out there.
Had he, say, driven off a cliff and somehow survived, would he still be blaming the GPS? Or maybe had he turned down an off ramp going the wrong way & hit someone head-on, also blaming the GPS? Please guys & gals, don’t EVER trust your life or even your job to ANY electronic device! Don’t stake your life on that electronic engine brake working or that collision avoidance radar to always warn you in advance. All electronic “safety” or “navigation” devices are cold, heartless pieces of equipment that don’t give a flip if you kill yourself or anyone else.
Well, what do you expect? It is really sad that the trucking industry has been forced to dummy down truck driving to the point that today’s truck drivers have to rely on electronics to get the truck down the road. Sadly, the days of truck driving where the truck driver actually knew how to read a map, fill out a log book, read road signs and keep the truck under control without speed limiters are dead. I have been driving for thirty two years. I will NEVER rely on some little plastic box to direct an 80,000 lb. truck. I won’t even rely on directions off the qualcom without looking at a map. It’s sad that a once respected profession has turned into laughing stock.
I drove for 23yrs and when i see something like this i just shake my head and shudder!! How did this moron get behind a wheel of a commercial vehicle??The new generation of drivers today just scares the crap out of me!!!
Because if they wouldn’t get him/her hired cause of his/her stupidity he/she would sue them for not providing reasonable accommodations 🙂
I had a partner once who’d get lost in a truckstop. I believe there are drivers out there that don’t use anything at all. They just wing it……
Well, at last he stoppee before making the impossible turn. They would probably remove him easier if someone just guided him back these 3 miles and let him make a right onto the same street he came from. I don’t understand why in this country you don’t help the fallen, you kick him more…
you’re going to trust this driver to BACK for 3 miles?!!!
I had the pleasure of backing a 48′ trailer for near two miles. This happened about 1968 – 70. I don’t remember the exact date. Was hauling for Breymore out of Detroit to a road construction site in Montana. We were given a hand drawn map of where the drop was to be. We ended up on a snowed in country road that was clearly marked and signed as per the map. The further we got into the road the red flags of “ooops, something ain’t right with this” started to show.
No construction project in sight, no portable phones in those days and no farm buildings to be seen. We slipped the old T100 KW into reverse and followed our own tracks back to the highway.
Even experienced drivers can end up on the wrong road where backing a trailer for a mile or so is the only option. Now, for this story about the driver ending up on a board walk for three miles. Cripes, a board walk sags under that much weight, hand rails on the side of the road, sagging boards, very narrow = maybe this is not a road!
I drove for 28 yrs with only a trucker atlas. I always used the last few miles to the shipper & recv.from the Qualcomm and the rest of the in between from the trucker atlas. Some of these new drivers shouldn’t even be driving a truck. Common sense would tell you wouldn’t drive on the board walk, I’m sure there signs saying no motor vehicles allowed. Makes me wonder how the driver even got a driver license. Some of these new drivers scare me that they are driving a big truck on the road. I’m glad in a way that I’m retired now
Wow…..just wow!
And you wonder why they insist on micro managing Truckers…. wonder no more! I’m college educated, and Trucking is my second career, and there are many Drivers out here with similar backgrounds, but the vast majority of Truckers could definitely be classified as ‘Knuckle Draggers’ and ‘Slingblades’, dumb as a rock, and always blaming Muslims and Mexicans for their own stunted growth. It got so bad that I don’t talk to Drivers anymore at the Truckstops because it’s too easy to get sucked into stupidity, and too difficult to hold a meaningful intelligent conversation. #Fact
I guess his common sense must have been on vacation
CRST driver of the month
CRST one of the top 5 worst trucking companies in the U S.
Must have been a Garmin cause my Rand McNally GPS would never route me down somewhere like that. He probably ignored the GPS and got so far off route that it had no other option but route him down some restricted “roads”.
Wow…just wow. I’m so embarassed for that driver. Here’s another story: Last week while delivering fuel to a station with a Tim Horton’s beside it, I actually saw a tractor-trailer drive through the drive-thru lane.
The pumps are in the front, the drive-thru at the side of the building, and truck parking in the back. There is a myriad of signs saying ‘trucks proceed around back, no entry, do not turn here, cars only’ etc. But….apparently lacking English comprehension, the ‘new Canadian’ driver took the shortest route to the truck parking area.
He was very lucky that there was an access road at the end of the drive through that led out to the truck parking area. At least a shocked 4 wheeler gave him a good blast of the horn in the drive thru lane.
Seriously….Helloooo….LEARN TO READ A MAP! I’ve never owned a GPS in my life and I’ve managed to safely drive 2 million miles with no incidents in every major city in this country all by knowing how to read a map! I have no idea how to even turn on a GPS for that matter although I do own a dash-cam.
Another ignorant cementhead out here driving who has a CDL with NO common sense and more of them clueless steering wheel holders arriving every week.
I wish I had the funds to produce a tv show on trucking stupidity cause it’s be an award winner and I’d never run out of subjects.
It’s unfortunate the Godfathers are so resentful instead of being mentors. But what if it were a dying industry b/c no one wanted to come out?? What would u old timers say then?? No honor in refusing to pass ur vast knowledge.
It’s not the old timers that are at fault. First it was his trainer that failed him. Fellow drivers at school failed him. Orientation failed him. He failed life. No common sense, no ability to stop and check when things changed drastically. Not a free thinker, Dependent on technology instead of his abilities or the lack there of.
it is a dying industry. the youngsters who have a brain will not do this job. It takes dedication beyond a device controlling your every move.
It is a truck “driver” job you can turn into a career of dedicated service to America. or anywhere in the world. You know you are making everything go because you are bringin’ it all to everyone who needs it..even some who can’t afford it. It WAS a service industry.
Now…it is a computer driving the truck and the drive is ancillary to
the task at hand.
No ticket? No way! Fake!
http://www.nj.com/atlantic/index.ssf/2017/09/ventnor_city_awaits_report_on_possible_damage_to_b.html#incart_river_home
mounting evidence to the contrary…he will pay something…hopefully
Companies need to pay more and make this a viable profession for intelligent people.
This is just the beginning wait for the self driving trucks….Think this stuff will never happen then?
Great idea for a reality show 😳
Guess common sence and looking out the window flew out the window..
I made really dumb mistakes trusting GPS blindly in the beginning. Eventually u learn. But everyone else has amnesia and wont share their rookie tales…Super Truckers from birth!!!! I trust NOTHING on GPS but open interstate HIGHWAY!!!
When I drove truck, I never trusted Dispatchers, load planners, shippers or consignees! For the main reason on all of the ones mentioned above, the majority of the ones who answer the phone at the other end drive 4 wheelers, not big rigs. They have no clue about “Truck Routes” I relied on my Atlas Truckers map, or spoke with other drivers on the CB for directions. Yes, I started with CRST, Inc. my husband and I only drove for them for 6 months. Piss poor company to work for!
No comment…!!!!
Rest my case……
Check which “School” he came Out of.
He probably has a car gps, a new driver, he needs to use a road atlas period
It’s funny on youtube where there is a low underpass and truck after truck top their trailers and the warning signs are all over the place
I was trained by cr England 5 years ago, they tought me proper trip planning, map reading and only use a GPS as a positioning finder, not a turn by turn solution
Well the trucking industry has ask for this kind of response of driver capabilities, they came out with the CDL, (another smart decision, by someone setting behind a desk and thinks they know more about trucking than the veterans truckers that left out here,)cdl made it possible for everyone that thought they could drive a big truck, just sign up and take some ones course, and you’re a truck driver, that made truck drivers into nothing special, until there stuck under a bridge or what ever and ever one judges us all as some of the dummies that are out here
I just took out my cell phone and called the consignee to verify against the computer directions my company gave me.
Also there is still such a thing as utilizing an actual trucker’s atlas which tells you where you can and can’t go. In CA, they have trucker maps which tell you what legal routes you can and can’t go on.
Can’t rely too much on technology. Also I read signs like TRUCK ROUTE THIS WAY and prefer not to get off the beaten path. But don’t get me started on the NYC area and I-278 going through the boroughs. Do you stay on the interstate or exit it. My guess is stay on but was always uncertain about that area. Nonetheless I survived.
And yes I got off course once in a small town in GA and called the consignee to get out of the mess I got myself in. Shit happens of course and I live to tell about it.
Feel sorry for the fella for making such a grave error but I’ve been there as well to a lesser extent.
I…have nothing to say except…we’re doomed…
Yeah, not suprised at all. I used to tell new drivers not to trust their GPS…..also knowing that some people are just complete and total idiots. Not suprised to see CRST on the side of the Trailer. Another company that will hire you if you are breathing.
You can not fix stupidity.
lol people we have ??men wearing dress,s and pearl,s were I work so anything go,s lollol sad
It kills me when drivers act like they never mad mistakes out there, those GPS can take u to places u don’t need to be once u notice then where can u turn around
These days driver’s don’t know how to navigate an Atlas, it’s sad that they got to really on ipads, GPS units and don’t or have no idea how to use the trusty map, if this driver had no where he was at he should have gotten out of the truck and asked before proceeding, this tells me he wasn’t trained to use common sense, the carrier should be held accountable as well as the driver, bunch of idiots
the GPS is not at fault. the driver is at fault. GPS is nothing but a tool, the drivers was incapable of thinking for Himself. When he noticed (or did he?) that the road was no longer a road why didn’t he stop the truck and check it ut.
did he not have atlas.? Is he the kind of driver the ELD is targeting?. Drivers that do not, can not have a thought of their own. The un thinking driver is waiting in the wings. The driver ignored the warning signs, lack of traffic and continued on his ignorant way. Crap like this is happening more and more often .
I don’t blame the driver for following the GPS onto the boardwalk – but 3 miles into it? Boy, that’s some “I hope this leads to another road. I hope this leads to another road. I hope this leads to another road. Doh!” haha.
It’s not always clear at first, but you have to make a judgment call far faster than 3 miles down..
Get the big picture…they apparently din’t instill the smithy
rules to well. Don’t mouse trap yer self!
CRST= Crusty the CLOWN COMPANY
The day cab was used to pull the trailer off as the sleeper disconnected
That picture will be a great recruiting tool for CRST… OMG, simply amazing stuff!
C R S T = Crash and Roll Stunt Truck
AH C.R.S.T (Crash and Roll Stunt Team) I can’t believe someone can be that STUPID!! I thought crst.did the routing for their drivers? I wonder did this SUPER STAR go through crst’s training program
I’m not listening to this article.. this HAS TO BE that fake news, that trump was talking.
I’m sorry but people that rely solely on a GPS, are a menace to society. And they shouldn’t be driving a class 8 truck. In this case any motor vehicle. I read that the boardwalk was posted no vehicular traffic. Can the driver not read! Take this guy out of the truck, as he has no business driving.
A GPS device is a great tool but you still have to use your head. Too bad for the driver. I hope he learns from his mistake.
Truck driving is a “thinking job.” When you quit thinking, that’s when you’re going to get yourself into trouble.
That’s what you get with a warm body holding the wheel. The front page of every news paper. And a big black eye from it.
could have redeemed his self by backing out the 3 miles!
Try that National Trucking Rodeo Stars!
Don’t get in too big a hurry to actually look over the GPS route BEFORE you take off. If it puts you on roads with “Parkway” after them, it could be off limits for trucks. Always take the longer way if it keeps you on bigger roads; those neighborhood “shortcuts” sometimes involve low tree branches and impossible turns.
Just sayin!
ZPO…ZOMBIE COMPUTER OPERATOR.
The Apocalypse is upon us.
There are no GPSs’that will put you on any pedestrial walkway including the boardwalk. All GPSs’are all highway and local STREET mapping.NOT sidewalks and boardwalks
I didn’t know crst opened a casino at the boardwalk
Hell are you all not sure that there not starting to make a new TV show. ZOMBIE TRUCK DRIVING. or maybe DRIVING WITH THE LIVING DEAD. no one with a brain that work even part time would be that stupid. But we are talking CRST it’s a body that’s all dot required to hold the steering wheel anymore. STOP TRUCKING COMPANY FROM RUNNING THERE OWN DRIVING SCHOOLS.
That is amazing.
The GPS are not accurate the good old paper atlas is the only one to trust but the problem with these trucking company now days is they put any one that can hold a steering wheel in a eighteen wheeler these company’s are to big and don’t care about professional driving just get the load there c.r. England ,swift, knight, crst, all only hire steering wheel holders not true professional drivers it’s sad and dangerous sad part about is yes it’s a new driver that has no knowledge and common since and shouldn’t be placed in a rig or on the road driving tons of weight the driver is darn lucky that board walk wasn’t full of people they could of hurt badly it don’t take a scientist to ha ‘ve common sense but it does take a real driver to control and drive a eighteen wheeler and understand the true american trucker is not a steering wheel holder .the true professional drivers no plan and know that trucking is not you it’s a true profession that take a lot of responsibility and capabilities that you don’t make mistakes that may harm things around them they drive for success safety and profession pride, not stupidity ignorance and just holding a steering wheel and texting on cell phone’s and it’s sad that stupidity and ignorance makes the trucking industry look bad just like what this driver did
What makes a driver a driver in your opinion? Not shifting gears because we are in automatics. Hate to tell you this but I’m more professional than most of the old timers that pass me on the highway. They drive way too fast, ride the truck or 4 wheeler in front of them too close and don’t flash they marker lights to say thank you when I flash them over at night. I guess gear jamming a 13 speed at 75 mph and nearly pushing people out of the way makes them real truckers.
At least it wasn’t swift this time. Proves other companies are just as bad. GPS is a tool. Common sense should be used all of the time. I have had times GPS says turn but there is no roads to turn on. If it doesn’t look right don’t go there with a truck.

Truck driving as a thinking job. When you quit thinking that’s when you’re going to get yourself into trouble.
