I stand among the rugged peaks
What glory to my soul this speaks
Beautiful day, bright sunshine
a marvel to this world of mine
Sweet surrender, so humble am I
when all alone I do sigh
Beauty and majesty among the night
peace surrounds this sweet delight,
When at a glance a cloud I see.
before long is as the sea.
Like an army to cover the land.
No more sun where I stand.
I see the storm a brewing
I know it’s all his doing
I fear the fury of this sight.
what once was brown, now clothed in white.
Words of the general have sought
what the winds of change have brought
I now must say to maker of earth and sea
to you may all the glory be!
I wrote this poem on top of White’s Pass,
WA. in 1997. It was published in poetry.com
I was writing about a coming snowstorm. I knew it was on the way due to the recent weather report and stopped on top of the mountain to watch it come in. When I first stopped up top it was sunny and no clouds were visible at all. It is simply astonishing watching a storm of that magnitude change the landscape in only seconds. I truly have seen the glory of God in the 12 years I have been on the road…
