In just one year, employees of Averitt Express raised and donated $500,000 to be donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Perhaps even more incredible than the amount raised is that more than 82% of Averitt employees donated to help reach that goal.
Since 1987, Averitt Express has had a non-profit charitable giving wing through which they donate money to causes that focus on children’s health. The program is now 100% funded through contributions by Averitt associates. Drivers and other employees can choose to have money deducted from their paycheck each week to go to charity. More than 82% choose to do so.
Averitt giving has ramped up in recent years. Since 1995, Averitt associates have donated over $100,000 every year, but starting in 2010, there hasn’t been a year where donations have amounted to less than $400,000, with St. Jude being the primary recipient. To date, Averitt Cares for Kids has donated more than $8 million to charities.
“I’m proud of our team’s generosity that makes a donation like this possible,” said Averitt CEO, Gary Sasser. “An important part of our culture is the idea of ‘The Power of One,’ that everyone can make a difference. And with weekly donations of just $1, our associates have shown the power of one dollar, and what is possible when we work together for a great cause.”
