When you say the route didn't work, what happens there? I'm curious like what the procedure is on something like this. Did you guys try to get through a spot and found it wasn't passable? Have to backtrack somehow?LoneCowboy, cke, booley and 1 other person Thank this.

How many miles do you have to haul these bladesPoleCrusher, booley and SAR Thank this.

we did not try to get through - we stopped at a safe parking place and are waiting on the new and improved route
we are on a state route on our permit - so any adjustment a will require an amended or replaced permit. And turning around with these will be very difficult at best.
Short miles are about 700
routed miles??? Could be 900 not surePoleCrusher, booley, SAR and 4 others Thank this. -
I guess I'm just curious how you were able to determine you couldn't make it? Obviously intensive route surveys have already been done but I remember you saying there was a corner or two that they weren't sure you could make. Did you decide that any maybes were too risky? I'm just trying to learn how some of these obstacles are overcome on a move as involved as this.FoolsErrand, kylefitzy, PoleCrusher and 2 others Thank this.

Sometimes things just don't work out the way people think it will... regardless of how much brain-power is applied in the planning stage.
Transportation of modules intended for the Imperial Oil (ESSO) Kearl Lake site in northern Alberta didn't go quite as planned. Thirty-three modules (of 205) that were built in Korea and were landed at Lewiston, ID, were supposed to go by road. These were big modules... as much as +580,000 lbs. Route problems were two-fold; there were survey problems and there were citizen problems. They ended up spending about $500,000 per module to turn the 33 into 60.
Transportation woes threaten to delay Imperial oil sands projectkylefitzy, PoleCrusher, booley and 3 others Thank this. -
it varies by situation- in the case the company were are hauling for ordered the route survey....it was “done” they ordered permits and off we went. Then they sent another person up to “measure” the corner and that person said it was not doable - so we were told to wait and they would come up with a plan.
there are multiple sets of trucks traveling for this job - not all of them followed instructions. turns o out the corner is technically possible as they made it through but not clear on damage to curbs grass and such
so I have no idea how this turns out. Normally when you have a route survey done properly - you run the route and all is joy and lightness.FoolsErrand, kylefitzy, PoleCrusher and 7 others Thank this. -
Stupid forum software won't let me edit it, but I wanted to add...
From the article: Imperial spent three years planning the move...PoleCrusher, booley and cke Thank this. -
