Didn't read through it again so dunno what they are saying, but I didn't get the insurance then.. I waited a short time for my CDL to age to 2 years old. I called back and apparently a small fender bender I had that I forgot about also dropped. I got a rate here in FL as a auto/freight hauler for $12k/year and I've now have my authority active since mid Oct. I'm already in the middle of my mandatory safety audit.. lol ######## didn't even wait the full year.. -

I was speaking to my Insurance broker last week on a non-insurance issue. He is really good about answering questions about certain things I am not well versed in. We got to talking about new entrants and renewals. He told me that he is seeing quotes in the $14,000 to $17,000 outside of NYC. NYC is a minimum of $19,000. These are single owner-operators, power only. As far as renewals go he said he is seeing a $1000 hike across the board. Not good.

This has to do with COVID, but in a different way than you would think.
As a side-gig, I am an independent physical damage surveyor for a plethora of commercial insurers. Once everything shut down and they began working from home, my business dropped by over 90%. Its not that there were no claims being filed, but that my assignments became almost exclusively estimation audits. The body shops figured out that the adjusters weren't going to come out and check, so they began jacking all the estimates up with fluff in order to maximize profits. So overnight I went from submitting photos, measurements, and proximate causation to verifying the damages being repaired were from the claimed incident. In addition, the supplies have increased in price due to scarcity, and there you have your $1k increases.TA1199 Thanks this. -
I would like a side gig like that. How did you get involved in that? My side gig is market research studies. The money is ok. I hooked up with a national compay during COVID that was looking for someone to scout out locations for Amazon lockers, and other shipping points. For about 8 months It kept me busy and out of the house while everyone was stuck inside.

Dumb luck. We moved here with the intent of me retiring and raising our son, but my wife was having a difficult time finding work in her field. I got online and looked, saw the position offered on Craigslist, thought to myself "I could do that in my sleep!", sent an e-mail with my resume, interviewed over the phone and in-person, and landed the gig. Shortly thereafter, the owner sold to another guy who felt my work was far superior to anyone else's capabilities, and he terminated everyone else, leaving me full-time (I contracted in part-time, as needed). Before my hospitalization, I was still doing it one day per week, and I have been asked to let him know as soon as I am physically capable of doing the job again, as he is now slammed while working by himself.
