I think Penski calls them hikers, CDL drivers to move box trucks and Tractor trailers around.

I believe it’s set your own schedule.

I used to drive a big old 5 speed manual transmission armored truck they called The Gladiator that you had to double clutch and it didn't have automatic anything. It was tough but I did it all the while toting a sidearm and a shotgun.

I'm older now, but I'm only 55. I've got some physical challenges but I'm not 85 or anything yet. Don't forget we Grandma's have a lot of gumption!

Anyway, thanks for the replies. I got the idea that there's no part time, so I will get my Class B license and get back into working and if it goes good and I can work full time I'll see about getting Class A.

I am conscientious and a hard worker, even if my bones creak some. I don't need to get back to family so I could stay out on the road for quite a bit and I would enjoy seeing the country. I think the and I would make a good team.

In today's trucking world the physical demands on a driver are light. If you work smart you can deal with hard to pull things like 5th wheel and tandem locking pins. Getting into and out of a truck is generally easy, as is getting into and out of a trailer. I think post #29 summed it up nicely. Doing this job is easy, but it can be terribly unforgiving of mistakes. Poor choices can lead up to problems after problems. A driver MUST develop critical thinking or they won't make it. At least once a month we see a thread started that goes like this! I just got fired by (ACE) trucking after my 3rd or 4th accident and can't find a job now. HELP my bills are piling up. THIS is what most of us are trying to say. Critical thinking and good decision making will make the difference between a long career or become a less than a year driver running from a contract.

One more point, driving an 18 wheeler with a 53 foot trailer is not the same thing as an armored car. You can backup in most places and don't need a football field to turn around in. Backing up a trailer that seems like it is in another area code takes a while to master. Sounds easy, right? Now go do some research right here in this forum and see all the drivers over the past 2 or 3 years that could not do it without getting a preventable every 2 or 3 months.

Could you name one or two jobs for working part time where you can make money?
But please don't put something stupid aka being CEO...

The average person can make money working part-time. My sister worked in a Textile Mill working a "mini shift" for several years back in the 80s just to mostly pay off her new car. Making money is not the same thing as making a living. Two totally different things.

I understand having a trailer is a lot different, which is why I understand the need for proper training ☺️
