It's been 22 years since I have driven a big truck. Last job was hauling concrete block and concrete. I used to drive a '81 R model Mack pulling sod. Running the back roads of S Florida. Did all kinds of off roading in that truck. Seldom drove on a 4 lane. I pulled jet A and avgas for a little.
We had POS '72 GMC Astro's (1984) with 13 speeds and 318 Detroits. Non working A/C on them, one didn't have heat!
They have a nice T2000 KW there at Tech.

i went to a tec school here in my home town ant thay took alot of one on one time

did a pretrip and the road test was easy .... I took mine at Gary .... between the backing and road trip I think they want to make sure you keep control of the truck (no curb jumping or out of gear coasting) and don't hit anything ...... remeber GOAL when backing .........

Rug,
They just got that big yellow bannna this past year! Its nice truck but it has an auto in it, and that wont help you with learning to get back on the horse. They have another older long nose pete with a 10 speed and Cat engine, they use that for most of your seat time out on the road. It was purchased by the school back in 1997, and drives just like new (super low miles) super smooth (well after you learn to shift!)
Both Mr.Warrren & Mr Bently will work with you to help you become a success. If they see you are trying, they will go out of their way to help you. I had never driven any large truck until I went there, and when I went out with my trainer, he was impressed by what I had learned at school and commented that he felt very safe with me behind the wheel. I really think the PTDI standards make a huge difference in the quality of training you get. I know the folks from PTDI came around and did audits to make sure that all the standards are followed. When I was in oreintation there was a guy that had been to a 15 day school, and he plain just scared me! He just did not seem to be aware of so many safety related things......If you complete the course over at TTCN, you will have so many safety related things ingrained, as they will not allow you to drive if you are not demostrating safe driving habits. -
I finished my training on August 21 in Marshfield, WI. Great training!! Better than I had with prior carrier! At home now waiting for a trainer assignment! Which is good for today because I have to go to Rockford, IL to get my Hazmat fingerprinting done. I do not understand why I have to get fingerprinted again for my CDL-A renewal...my fingerprints are older...but still the same!
I hope everyone else in the 8-21 class is doing good!
