Getting a new start

There's a scary memory. Note how the stripes on the hood don't line up with the cab? Those trucks, all pre-air ride, shook so bad, the hood stops would wear out, causing the hood to become razor sharp on the edge. Can't tell you how many were mistaken for Pete's. I recognize both the factory in the background, Milwaukee Press and Machinery, and the truck belongs to Karps , everything for the baker. These trucks were used on multi-stop regional deliveries. I drove for a friend that did a lot of work for Karps. He had a load of flour bags, everyday out of Hastings, Mn. to Milwaukee. Fact is, they were on 1st Ave. and that was the location of the this machine shop. They may have just moved in, because a Karps truck would never haul machined products.

 

That truck, a FLC 112, I believe has to be a '73-'77 because, in '77, White was dropped, it just became Freightliner. I remember these trucks and makes me feel old,,,

 

This is the problem with truck driving today, people think its acceptable to be driving for $40k a year. You'll make more than that a the bottom of the barrel beverage jobs. Why deal with all the hassle of maintaining a CDL and the risk of driving a truck for $40k? Might as well just go ride a forklift.

 

Actually other than not having the endorsements you are golden on the experience and clean driving record, LTL companies will definitely consider you even with three years experience, just get the endorsements, you mentioned local delivery so consider food service companies too, according to the members who are food service on here, food service pays pretty good but it is tough demanding work, as far as $65,000 a year, that's not a unrealistic number for LTL or food service even in your first year with them, guess the only question is what to do with your truck, keep it I guess if it's paid for, you may want to go do your own thing down the road.
