What do you like best about trucking?

I love that after 45 years of trucking and saving earnestly only since 1992 my financial advisor, who we visit once a year, tells me that in 3 years when I reach legal retirement age, we will have 1million dollars in our 401 and roth accounts barring a meltdown ala 2008.
Trucking has been good to us.
My advice to all the young cats starting out...
Start putting some $ away now cause the government ain't gonna save you.

 

Actually no, what happens after dropping that Walmart load is I carefully clean the tractor I was issued for the week, returning it to better than found condition in hopes of being issued yet another 2020 model upon my return. After a brief stop at Aldi to stock the fridge I arrive home to two gleefully barking small dogs twirling like Tasmanian devils out of the sheer joy of my return, get a face full of puppy gingivitis breath, settle down in the recliner with a warm bowl is spaghetti O’s, watch two back to back episodes of Andy Griffith on MeTV then crawl into my own warm bed with the comfort of knowing $1,000 is headed to my checking account in a few days and that I missed the latest Chicago snow storm by 24 hours.

And on that note I guess we could start a thread on what we hate about trucking.

 

Well that thred has been beat to death already. Its alot of things i hate about truckin . But i hate them the least out of all the other options ive had in life

 

I like the lack of Structure, the chaos, and uncertainty, suits Me well.

 

The people I work with and the people I meet in connection with the job.
Well, most of them anyway.
I also like the fact that it's never boring. Aggravating sometimes, but not boring.

 

I like running new routes on new roads to towns I've never been before.
I especially enjoy eating at a small town ma&pa cafe.
Given the choice I will run 2 lane over the interstate 99 out of 100 times.

 

Sounds like you’ve had a difficult or challenging time. I’m sorry. I hope you can find something that brings you some degree of fulfillment and happiness before it’s all over. Life is incredibly short.
