2013 cascadia with 100 gallon tanks ..got about 50 gallon left when lite comes on .
Of course I would never admit this knowledge to my girlfriend who thinks the low fuel lite is normal .
How much fuel do you really have left when that fuel light comes on

On mine I have a 100 gallon and a 50 gallon tank. Yesterday the light came on about 80 miles from the barn. When I fueled it up 41 gallons went in the small tank, and 86 went in the larger one. That’s 3 days worth of running, with a heavy backhaul on Monday.
PE_T Thanks this. -
I had an over gross load that prevented me from filling up. Shipper refused to fix it cause I scaled barely legal with 3/8ths of a tank.
Dispatch wouldn’t let me fill up to have an over 80k scale ticket and once shipper knew that, they told me to beat it.
Company eventually said to just run and let me only fuel enough after scales to get past the next one. Was still limited by our fuel stop choices (loves, ta, Petro). Was a super nervous trip for me. -
Only Cosmo Kramer and that other guy were brave enough to take it down below the last hash on the gauge
snowlauncher and gentleroger Thank this. -
Just as a side, if I remember my physics correctly, the temperature of the diesel can affect it's density and volume somewhat. I remember a while back some court cases charging truck stop operators saying they heat up the diesel way too much. I wonder if this might also change when this light goes on too!

always told them I ain't playing the minimum fuel game.kemosabi49, Bean Jr., DAX_ and 2 others Thank this. -

The tanks are set up to draw from and return fuel to the bottom of the tanks, but the pickups aren't always centered, and just guessing, but less bypass volume might make it lose prime more easily.
The APU, doesn't return much, if any and the filter isn't going to take much to plug. Probably, the APU will run out before tank is empty.
I've run TK reefers out a few times, and started them after priming with the plunger or the bulb(like a remote tank on a boat).
Been around smaller diesels since I was a kid, stuff happens, and you learn from it.
One more thing, ISX has an electric charge pump, and should prime itself with key on for a long count, off and on again, maybe 2 more times. Still not a fan of the Cummins.Bean Jr. and Brettj3876 Thank this.
