I would think though that the rating would shift in the direction of handling more power as the weight of the application it's being used in drops and my cursory guesstimate at the weight of this vehicle would be somewhere around 10,000 to 15,000 pounds at most and according to Eatons website their strongest six speed is rated for ~1,000 lb-ft at 66,000 pounds gvw if I understand it right

Will it fit to the big engines though? I don't know if the smaller engines use the same size flywheel housing. Or if the clutch itself will bolt up to the flywheel.
-
If the Eaton is like smaller manuals I've looked at for other projects and has a separate bellhousing from the body of the transmission then I'm almost certain I can find one that's close and either make or have an adapter plate made, as for the clutch I'm pretty sure there's something out there that would work in this

If this is a pleasure vehicle that never see's a full load, a Spicer 6 speed might do the trick, rated at 1400 ft/lbs of torque.

Maybe find an old 6X4 Spicer twin stick and use the main trans, sell the auxiliary.
Many say that Spicer's were underrated and could take more torque than advertised.MACK E-6, Soap stone and 650cat425 Thank this. -
I've heard that many times over the years myself. Most say they're underrated by as much as 30%

Come to think of it.........., a 6X4 or 5X4 might be the ticket.
Use the main box for putting around and drag racing and the auxiliary as a range selector and OD gear for highway cruising, have an extra trans left over to play with.
Think the final on a 6X4 with OD on the main and aux is around .62 or .64 and the 5X4 is around .81 to .84 with direct main and OD aux. -
I raced a couple of big rigs bobtail, the company variety before the nanny computer governed days back in the 90's One day I had a 95 COE almost new ungoverned or unlimited Detriot 500+ horse with a rockwell 9 and so on. Its about 8 ton by itself.
Next to me at a light was a little stock 5.0 mustang from around 1990 and the goal was first to the second block light down the highway which would approximate 1/4 mile or a little more. Close enough for those locals who wanted that kind of racing.
I took that engine into redline, carefully allowed the clutch to essentialy dump into my 5th gear and we're off at the green. Then I went into 7th red lined that and then top gear in the 9th. at that point my fuel pump quit at 116 and the momentum carried me to 125 or so past the end of that run. Car was still in my mirror having gained quite a bit in the last half but not quite enough. Although it had more top end than I did for sure so if the race was long enough its gone.
The abuse to the tractor was enormous. The clutch plates first. I poured brown smoke out of there for 50 yards making each shift. She took it. The airride body connections to the frame leaned the cab over a little too much and the rears were not heavy enough that they were designed for so they danced around back there but fortunately interlock and all 8 tires were able to hook up. Not really spinning here, more like chattering on airride until we got going when the weight finally go thrown on to them.
If the boss or the Law found out in those days it would ha... burned up the company and the court judge for sure I think ti would have been about 48 points in blocks of twelve. 12 for racing, 12 for 12 for 12 for and so on. And the fines in the thousands, revoked CDL and jail time etc. and that would have been the end of that.
Such hubris to try and race hot cars with a 8 ton semi. But that day she could and did it. But against real race or muscle cars? Its not going to happen. Its not the right matchup. The times to end of course? I have no clue. We got there when we got there. Maybe 13 or more seconds. Closer to 15 or more. A crappy stock car and a crappy heavy truck. lol. -
I once flew a space shuttle to Jupiter too.Ezrider_48501, JonJon78, D.Tibbitt and 3 others Thank this.

You could always be really different and use an old school Allison auto. I've only ever experienced one behind the old 8v92 or 6v92 Detroits, but I'm sure one would work with a Cat too.

You tease.
I can understand your skepticism and refuse to make a battle over something that actually happened first hand in my experiences out there. Believe it or not as you wish, it matters not. It did happen. There is no point going over all that. The reason I explained that racing incident as I did it that day is to show what can be expected when someone tries to race a bobtail tractor in a abusive way.
