Sounds like they don't have enough work to go around. Time to start looking elsewhere if you are sitting that much for free. Or at least something paying enough to balance out the wasted time. Is this a regular thing for the other drivers too or are you at the bottom of the totem pole? I sit alot because jobs get cancelled last minute or even mid-trip but I'm paid the same from start to finish so what's the difference?
When they gave you sit and standby?

Find yourself something that pays hourly. It’s nice getting paid from the time you clock in to the time you clock out whether you are driving, sitting, sleeping, browsing Internet forums like this, etc...

Just tell them you wanna finish your reset, if its really been that long88228822 Thanks this.

You can log it as On-Duty and tell them you are, so they understand it will affect them when they need you to drive. It will be time for a 10 hour break. See what they say when you tell them it On Duty time if they want you to be ready to go anytime they call you.

it’s been constant with this company. Even in between loads. Often times I arrive at the receiver and I get unloaded and I don’t have my next load and I don’t know where the hell to go. So I’ll just drive like to the nearest truckstop and sit. Anywhere from an hour to several hours. And then all the sudden they’re freaking out when they got a load and of course it’s a loan that’s going to be down to the wire. Panic mode. I’m done with it. I don’t mind running loads that are running at the last second and take every star to align To make on time but when it’s 90% of every load you get, it gets old real quick.bzinger Thanks this.

Rotfl. I remember that ####, its even better when you show up to deliver and they're surprised to see you because that load wasn't even supposed to be there for another day or 2.
Stop being the dispatchers #####. If they have a problem, you need to bring it upto a driver manager, safety or whoever their boss is. You don't work for the dispatcher, you work with them.
On your next load if they make you sit around beforehand, call whoever its bding shipped to and ask them what their scheduled recieving time is. See if it matches up with the dispatchers down to the wire time. -
No... It's the company's time, and you should be paid for it! When you're driving, fueling, waiting in traffic, loading, unloading, being inspected, waiting on the phone, waiting for an answer from dispatch, waiting for a load, broken down, etc etc - you are serving your company and are on their time. Get a job that pays by the hour at the rate that YOU deserve - problem solved. If you're paid by the mile, then calculate how much you are getting per hour (Gross pay divided by total hours at your company's beck and call). If it's not what YOU deserve, find a better company.

Always remember that you are actually the one ultimately in charge! Make your opinion count!
Coffey Thanks this.
