How many 2010-2020 trucks will still be on the road in 2050-2060? Probably not many. I think a little bit of black smoke vs the carbon footprint of having to junk and replace a plastic ####-box every 4-6 years is not a huge deal.

Todays new trucks are probably only good for 500,000 miles due to them being all chocked up with emissions.
-
If I owned an emissions truck I would not idle it at all. I'd slap an Apu on it. Might make it to 750,000 then. Idling is an engine killer in these new trucks Imo.

I think if they were maintained properly they would last a lot longer.
Problem is no one understood how to maintain the dpf/def systems when they first came out. If you idled old iron at 600 rpms all night, how long would that engine last?
Coupled with fleet "maintence" schedules and "driver" usage (note bien the use of qoutes) is what has shortened the lifespan of new trucks.
Maybe 1% of the "old iron" vintage trucks are still road worthy. All of them have had significant work/money invested to keep them on the road. If a person wanted to they could run a 2019 Crapcadia for a million plus. It's not neccesarily the build quality or design but rather usage that dictates the lifespan of the truck. -
Liner's dropping on an ISX isn't an emission issue, neither is the fuel pump problem they have.
daf105paccar Thanks this. -
Blowing smoke only means that your engine is severely over fuelling and not getting enough air for efficient combustion or you're too cheap to buy a new air filter and get a proper tune up.
Gale Banks can get 2400 HP out of a 14 L diesel with virtually no smoke, why can't those hillbilly smoke wagons make that kind of power without all the smoke?
On a per capital basis the USA and Canada are some of the worst polluters on the planet, nearly twice that of China where the population is in the billions.
A number of factors dictate those numbers, too many to get into, you'll have to do your own research, if you dare.
Class 3 power engineer here, try not to respond ignorantly.
I know a little about fuel efficiency and smoke, drove a lot of trucks, also drove a bio engineering lab and a hospital too, did my steam time at a coal fired generating station.Qbf594, daf105paccar, not4hire and 1 other person Thank this. -
Don’t forget the turbo charger issues. But the EGR valve going to crap is a well known issue that’s emissions related.
-
Oh and cams too. Also why do they sound like they're ready to window the block?mjd4277 Thanks this.

Your guess is as good as mine! But there’s a reason why the ISX is called the “I sucks”!!!

LOL China does oil changes at sea without even stopping their ships by just dumping the old engine oil sump tanks into the sea and cutting in a new tank full of new oil. They have no safety or health concerns for any production of any thing they produce. Hell they late term abort any women found with more than one child. Just watch one child nation. . China is just a #### hole 3rd world country. Just look what we are going through with the CHINA FLU.autopaint, LoSt_AgAiN and bzinger Thank this.
