Was your mother like mine... "Make sure you have clean underwear on in case you're in an accident."

Problem is, if you're in an accident, you likely don't have clean underwear anymore. o_O

really you only need a few items and you can scavenge the rest. Just be sure you know where your closest armory is to loot WTSHTF. lol

    (Long Post Warning)

My mom bought a whole bunch of supplies and food for when SHTF. She even told everyone who would listen what she was doing. Mom, I love you, but you’re not real bright.

    Of course, she didn’t understand.

Mom, in an emergency, the people that know of your supplies will reason to themselves that you are evil and selfish and that you should share what you have. In other words, they are going to try to take what you have by force.

“But Six, I am willing to share.”

And your supplies would be wiped out overnight.

Another thing that mom doesn’t get is how to use the food. That stuff isn’t for filling the void, that’s to give you the nutrition you need to stay alive while you forage in the woods for food to help fill the void.

    “I don’t understand, Six...”

You will have to continually find other sources of food and water. You just can’t sit in 1 spot thinking that all you have to do is keep tabs of your protein bars. The bars are for when you can’t find any rodents and insects for protein to stay alive. You’re thinking that you will eat 1 protein bar a day for that 2000 calorie thing. No, it will be 2000 calories a week.

I believe that it slowly dawned upon mom how horrible things would be.

Okay, that’s worse case scenario. Bad things can happen every single day, spur of the moment stuff. Like those big crashes in Wyoming. Like the freak snowstorm in the South during the early spring in 1993, and everyone got trapped and all roads shut down. Or in a tornado or hurricane.
In the blizzard of 93, I crammed into a motel with a couple other drivers, a cop, a drug dealer with some working girls. There was a HuddleHouse across the road. We and the girls would take turns working at the Huddle House because their crews couldn’t come in and we needed food. We worked there until the Huddle House ran out of food, and they locked the doors.

NO offense meant to anyone, but this will sound offensive. The biggest difference between those of us trucking and stuck in 1993 verses those of you who have been trucking less than 5 years is that so many of you guys

    1. Don’t know Dick. You know nothing, never done anything, always look to others to do for you instead of trying to learn for yourself.
    2. Cannot communicate. If I come yelling at you, you sit there pouting about how I hurt your feelings. Someone can yell at you about your truck being on fire, and your fat arse will sit there whimpering, “he’s yelling at me!”
    3. Are completely oblivious to your surroundings. It doesn’t matter what you know, how big and bad you are, or how much that Glock cost you, if you are not observant, when SHTF, it will be too late for you to do anything.
    4. Are slaves to your electronic devices. If you always use a calculator, you will never be good at math. If you always use a GPS, you will never be able to read a map or road signs. If all of your friends are on social media, you don’t have any real world friends.

Forgot to mention, you company drivers, your biggest danger isn’t a zombie apocalypse, it’s your being stranded on the side of the highway because your company either terminated your contract or they suddenly went bust.

Keep at least $1g CASH on you and a credit card.
The Driver’s Agenda: Get Paid, Get Home Safe.

    Luck in battle.

    On storing food:

A dear old friend who has passed, once said to me "I like my neighbor just fine, but if my son didn't eat for 2 days I'd murder him for a can of raviolis".

Biggest difference in localized disasters is that the cavalry is going to be coming. After Hurricane Sandy there were work trucks and crew from all over the country. Thank you Alabama.

In a situation where everyone is affected, were all going to be in dire need. No cavalry will be coming over the hill.

One armory I remember kept their 40 mm grenade rounds in the gate gaurd armored tank. Kinda stupid if you ask me. They have a hell of a safe at one end of their shoot line in the back but no, throw it all into the tank until half full and spilling out of the boxes.

Another Armory was 105mm towed Battery. The Ammo for them was kept at Fort Dix. So if they wanted to shoot those things they would had to road march there first.

If you ever visit Fort Shenandoah in Winchester VA about this time of the year for the live fire Civil War artillery shoot there for NSSA, Give it a go. a half of days worth of bleeding ears under the red flag. They have been shooting there for just about 142 years now.
