Open a dispatching company

    Hi,I am an owner operator and I want to have my own dispatch, what do I need so I don't fail? I have a truck and a trailer. How much money do I need and what am I suppose to be aware of in order for me to do well in it. I wanna do dispatch while I drive my truck. If it's a good idea or a bad, Please help me figure this out. Thanks

    You want to establish a brokerage first.

    If you are a O/O with own authority you already have a freedom to say no or yes or anything in between.

    What I suspect privately is you are tired of being offered *&^% loads and want to be able to open a vault that pays 5.00 loads any time anywhere. If a brokerage has that....

    I am very tired of dispatchers giving me loads that are making their customers happier without worrying about whether it's worth for the drivers or not who are away from their homes, working day and night and still barely surviving, which is why I wanna learn that skill and use it for myself so I could build my own reputation and get rid of the middle man. O/O can't see what the rates are and they have to say yes since they need to be moving or else they won't be able to make their payments or pay their personal bills. I just need some guidance to get my own authorities and run it for myself so I have satisfaction of my career.

    Not the freight broker but the dispatcher.     Much confusion is represented here .

    1.. Brokers collect loads from services wishing to ship goods.
    These loads are then put out to load boards , where companies compete to haul the offered freight for the lowest amount.

    2.. Dispatchers then take the loads they have incurred and assign them to trucks in their fleet.

    3.. Brokers take the first cut of $$$ , then the bid winner takes their cut of $$ , and after fuel , maintence
    costs and setting aside taxes etc , the Driver / owner op is left with all the $ that is left.


    So here is my take on your problem ..
    1 you can not dispatch your self with out a load board .
    2 you will be competing with low life blood suckers , they go home at night and do not loose sleep.
    3 if your gonna try self dispatch , it takes discipline , it takes time and you need to be on a reputable load board.
    4 you have to understand lanes , because if you are running empty miles a lot to get to a load that does not cover the empty miles , at some point you will be selling parts off your truck to get fuel to go home .
    Maybe find a better company to work for , there might be one out there somewhere .

    You didn't state your location, but I'll assume it's in Canada given the fact you posted in the Canadian forum. Your location is very important though because the rules in Canada are different than the US and they're different in various provinces. Aside from where you are located, it's important to know where you want to do business.
