Hi guys hoping someone can help . I have a kenworth where my rear diff went out . The big gear in center broke few teeth on it . Somehow it managed to get cought in the lip inside the housing and grinded off a small Chunk of it . Do you guys know what’s the purpose of that lip inside the housing? I was looking to just grind it off . I have a couple pics .

Just where they matted the back cover to the housing. As long as the weld isn't broke and isn't leaking fluid you should be fine. You should be able to file square and ring gear won't hit
