Responding to my own post here. LOL for one I think we should negotiate no self driving trucks for the next 25 years. No exceptions. As my old man used to always tell me, “just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should”. Yeah they might be able to make self driving trucks in 10 to 12 years from now but that doesn’t mean they should put 4 1/2 million people out of work. “Hey Congress, You know this little crisis you’re dealing with right now? Do you know what’s keeping the seams barely glued together right now in this country? Truck drivers. Go back in your little hut there and drop a bill says the US will not allow self driving tractor trailers on US Highway for the next 25 years minimum” or guess what? You could just put them all on the road right now because we’re all going to stay home and take care of our families during this crisis

The last thing we need is for the government to get involved in any way with setting rates.
-
So if the base rate is lets say 2 dollar a mile. What would encourage a broker for letting something go for any higher than that ? If they can just sell it at 2 dollar a mile while they got it for 5 dollar a mile. I think all a base rate would do is drive up the cost to transport which raises prices of everything else and in a couple years 2 dollar a mile would be what 1.50 a mile is right now. Similar to the 15 and hour minimum wage stuff that is happening in the last couple years. I think free market is the only way to go . The guys hauling real cheap can only last so long, and if this economy gets any worse it wont be long before its a bloodbath out herex1Heavy and WildTiger1990 Thank this.

Ok boomer.

The boomers are the ones who love infowars so much. Gotta get that dose of conspiracy to make you feel like the state of the world isn't actually your fault.

$2 a mile will work when there is little freight, especially on the spot market.
If capacity is tight....a broker will have to go above the $2 to get his freight moved.
Some companies may even find that using a broker when a minimum rate is in effect will simply be a waste of money. If you can't drive down cost past a certain point, why pay a brokerage fee to what amounts pushing paper around?D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
