I have recently started delivering trucks for a local Chevrolet dealership. Some are LCF with a box body while some are a Cutaway Vans with a box body. I am retired and only do this when needed. I do not have a CDL and none is required due to being under the weight limit. I do have a medical card and do keep a paper log when I drive following all rules for time. Trucks do have a DOT number assigned. My question is there may be several days between runs so I never run up against time. Usually out 1-2 days then off several. How do I log the days in between runs? Thanks for any help.

You can record multiple days off on one page. Enter the information on the log as you would for one day (all 24 hours off-duty), but put the multiple dates in the appropriate section, e.g., March 20-25, 2020.

If your off-duty period carries over from one month to the next I would use separate pages for each month. That isn't a regulatory requirement, but an operational one for the carrier as they typically file records by month.

§395.8 Driver's record of duty status.
    (f) The driver's activities shall be recorded in accordance with the following provisions:
    (10) Recording days off duty. Two or more consecutive 24-hour periods off duty may be recorded on one duty status record.

I’m not sure on that. Just a small dealership that sells to this one particular customer. Truck is lettered for the customer with name and other information as well as the DOT #. I know the owner of the dealership talked to an officer friend of his at an inspection station and they told him that I would need to fill out a paper log and have a medical card. Never said anything about an ELD.

Do I enter 24 in the hours section or multiply by the number of days and enter? Thanks

24... Complete the log as you would for one day, but just enter multiple dates as required.

    ELD exemptions.

    ELD Rule Exceptions
As specified in the ELD rule, the following are not required to use ELDs (but carriers may choose to use ELDs even if they are not required):
    • Drivers who use paper logs no more than 8 days during any 30-day period.

    • Driveaway-towaway drivers (were the vehicle driven is the commodity) or the vehicle being transported is a motor home or a recreation vehicle trailer (at least one set of wheels of the vehicle being transported must be on the surface while being transported)
    • Drivers of vehicles manufactured before model year 2000.

Like @not4hire shared, certain that he doesn't. Driveaway is specifically exempted.

Draw your line across grid off duty and enter 24 at end of line then 0's for sleeper birth, driving and on duty not driving then tally 24 times days off and enter that for total at bottom.

If you drive monday for 8 hours, you log that accordingly.

IF you spent tuesday and Wed at home and told to drive again Thurs, your logs will be off duty from last duty change Monday end of driving all the way to the thursday begin of workday hour and minute.

There is a certain amount of airmiles permitted in which you are exempt provided you return to the original point at end of trip.

Also paper logs are only allowed for 8 days only if the ELD system went down. Otherwise you are on time clock at the employer at the beginning and ending of each day.
