Again, another update, I have not let this issue go. I am still very much on the forefront, in fact I have done much discussion with various people, including two lawyers, whom have advised me on different steps to take to further the cause. At the moment I am trying the easiest route, OSHA, the branch of the US Dept. of Labor responsible for safety and health concerns on the job. I have also settled on a tentative name for my little movement, ACT or Association of Concerned Truckers.

I was leading toward SSNIP or Stop Schneider National's Idle Policy... but since this is bigger then orange and I may after tackling IDLE move on to other issues, ACT works long term.

I still like SSNIP though >.>

Anyway, I will update you with OSHA gets back to me, which should be within the next 7 days. The wheels of the US gov do not turn fast.

Although I'm just another "dumb trucker", I am willing to help you out in any way I can! All you need to do is let me now how, and I will do whatever I can to help eliminate these stupid policies!

OSHA returned my letter, they have said that this particular issue is clearly resting with the Federal DOT, not OSHA. Which seems strange to me, but this is a step in the right direction. I have a few people who keep trying to tell me it is FEDERAL law that you can idle >80 <40 this is not true. There IS not federal law. If you believe this and then run off and get fired you have no law to run back to.

If you wish to prove me wrong, find the law and give me a link.

In fact if you GOOGLE 'Federal Idle Law' you will come up with an EPA model for how to create a STATE idle restriction law. >.>

It is no surprise to me. Osha does not want anything to do with trucking. Only when the truck is at the dock.

If they did, there would be many changes to the industry. Consider the fact that factory workers working tired because of shifts and so forth.

Anything to do with driving or moving a semi is DOT once you bump a dock or unload a flat bed on someone property is OSHA.

Idling laws are made by the state, county or city and mostly it was due to someone got their panties in a wad when the built there $200,000 home next to a truckstop and on a tough night on the road the lot was packed and they woke up to diesel smell. Well duh we burn diesel and it smells. Now there are compliants that when we burn biodiesel we smell like a french fry. You just can't please John Q Public. :biggrin_25512:

As far as us in this truck....we'll idle any #### time we want. I've made my point with more than one cop when I invited him in and turned off the truck...waited a mere 20 minutes (we've got a nice shiny black truck) before he said "it's a dumb law" left and no ticket.

Best of luck to you but this is really going to be a state to state thing. Unless you feel you can educate John Q Public.

The people creating and voting for these laws are nothing more than R-E-T-A-R-D-S who don't deserve to live in a free country.

Until drivers here grow a set and shut down the roads, like they do over in Europe when something isn't right, it will only get worse.

I'll invite any rep that has voted this stupid law into passing to sit in my husbands black truck on a 70 degree day and see if they are comfortable with no AC....... I'd especially love it if they have on a suit and tie. Because when they realize in about 10 minutes they are going to have to dry clean their entire suit, they are going to freak out. :biggrin_2559:

I'd love to watch the sweat build in their foreheads, and the look on their face when they realize that no person could get a comfortable sleep in that condition.
