3406e fuel problem

I've had a fuel/water separator fuel filter cause this problem on my mechanical cat once. May want to change filters.

 

Check and more than likely replace the pressure relief valve down on the secondary filter base. Les could be right about a filter leaking causing the problem. Another rare situation is the batteries. I know batteries may not seem to be the problem, but I have seen it happen. The battereis weren't enough to fire the ECM and the starter at the same time. But when someone gave the motor a snort of ether it would fire right off and run. This would make ya think that it was a fuel priming issue. Load testing the batteries is cheap and you may just find the issue.

 

batteries can quit at any time it only takes one bad one to cause problems

 

There is a fuel line that runs fron the primary filter around to the back of the head. If it is loose or has a small hole in it and leaking, when the motor is shut off it will loose it prime and cause the problem you are having.

 

Put a 0~150PSI gauge on the secondary fuel filter and it should read # 75PSI at Idle >>>> Shut the engine down and the gauge should hold pressure with the engine off.

If it drops then it’s definitely fuel and not batteries but if it holds then it may well be electric.

Could be lose fitting, leaky hose, check valve, Filter, Batteries, etc etc but first step if fit a gauge.

 

if you change the fuel/water sep. look at the housing where the hoses attach, i had one crack on me.
