End dump?

 

Bucket is a dump trailer, and yes those are companies and between the handful of them dirt cheap is all you will get for rates up here pulling one, any smaller places will be locked up with company trucks or old timers that have been there for years that aren’t giving it up

don’t forget, ny is 102 on 5 axles, ma is 99k, vt is 90k, RI is 105k, nh is 85k, and Maine is 100k gross, your doing a lot more wear and tear pulling that weight around on top of it

 

I agree , most decent work is locked up and has too many trucks trying to get the work as is. Larger dump trailer companies rates are low.
Just because you see guys driving a polished up dump trailer with a large car truck , doesn’t mean he’s making good money, I know a few with shiny trucks that don’t have a pot to piss in , and I know some guys with plain Day cab trucks who haul for grocery companies that do very well
There’s money to be made in the Northeast hauling dry van and reefer if you look around. All the supermarket companies are busy right now especially with what’s going on with the
Corona Virus and many restaurants closed. All the Walmart’s and supermarkets are packed everyday. Home Depot and Lowe’s too.
A lot of people stuck home are eating home and doing repairs to their homes while they’re stuck in.

 

Hard to compete with those NY R permits. Don't know much about dump work but a lot of the O/O trash guys, there trucks have seen better days lol. TTS one of the worst offenders

 

It's very possible to do spot freight and be home daily. Can't remember the last time i slept in the truck. If i was in your shoes I'd hold off on flat or dump work. Rates in the tank and most flats im seeing are empty. Seeing more empty than loaded. You can make some $$$ with a van in the NE.

We book out a few days in advance and try and stay loaded both ways. We work M-F start our days around 3-4am and home by dinner. Avg 350mi a day. If you plan smart $1000+ a day is doable w/o killing yourself.

Stay away from cheap. Will dead head 300+ mi back home if nothing's worth putting on the truck. Can't tell ya home many times I've came home empty from northern mass cuz all there was is cheap water right across the border into Maine.

Edit. We don't have high overhead. Both trucks paid for, pay 800 a month total for renting 2 2018 vans. Our maintenance costs are next to nothing, running older equipment, a 93 and a 99 money making machines. I get an adrenaline rush putting a good round together or if i "win" with a broker. It's a game to me. Not giving the broker the satisfaction of pulling their cheap or double brokered ####.
